These look like they'd be perfect, I think I'll order some, they're a little bigger (10mm) but they're 12V, so no resistors needed.. plus they already come with a diffused lens, would spread the light more evenly, decent millicandela rating too - 1600, I just need to find a way to keep the red on the temp dial red, I've seen those hvac EL things you can get from ebay, but they have a white face, not down with the white face.

edit: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Filter - would be perfect for the cig lighter ring, apparently people had a hard time getting light to shine through there? 7000mcd and 12v again, no resistor needed, a few of these bad boys would shine through anything.

I found these which I am thinking of using rather than doing all this soldering. Does anyone have a picture showing the inside of the instrument panel and the other dash light which show the positioning of the lights themselves? I would like to send pics to this company to see what they which LEDs they would recommend to give a bright even look. Thanks.

Gauges look great, I will post a pic of mine in a day or so, I did mine all in green.

Finally the damn twist lock base LEDS!!!!!! That was the hardest part of the whole thing is soldering regular leds with resistors one the hot leg in to the backs of the gauge cluster.I've had 2 come undone since then and its left a couple dim spots in my cluster.I will be ordering some of those blue ones this week!!!

Since I've done this to my car last year, I also ripped apart my turntables and replaced all the LEDs with blue ones also...blue LED fever!!!:D

Are there any other colors because my neons are purple and I'd like it to match

Yes there are purple LED's, Just look on superbrightleds.com or fleabay. Pretty much anywhere that sells e-bay will sell purple led's. This is assuming you are looking for component LED's (the individual ones) if you are looking for the wedge based ones, you might have to look a little more!

okay, I'm still a beginner n everything at this. So how do u get the gauges to be that color. I'm trying to change my cluster color but can't find any help. please help

This is quite amazing very nice job sir. If you would like to give me your car i would be more then willing to take it off your hands.

after reading all 15 pages of this thread, noticed one thing didnt exist still. A comprehensive write up. I will attempt to make this my first contribution to this site.

I have a free weekend coming up, and even though my car has a few other pressing concerns, the parts arent in yet, so im quite glad i stumbled across it so i have something to do.

And yes Jaybone, the thread still lives almost 10 years later.

I'm actually planning to replace my gauge bulbs with LED drop in bulbs. I'm going to go with cool white to match my recently changed interior lights. I'm just hoping the HVAC bulb isn't as hard as everyone is saying it is.
