Finally got some good picts of my interior blue lights

Well, the foglight switch is done and I just so happened to guess right on the polarity so it works even.I'll go out in a bit and try to get a pic of it to show its intensity.I pointed the LED to the front of the switch so it should be pretty bright.

The cruise control switch is fun....There are actually 3 LEDs in there and one bulb so you will need 4 small LEDS for that switch. At the moment I'm assuming that I can simply mark polarity, cut the OEM LEDs off,and solder the new ones in thier place but thats what I thought about the ON indicator in the AC switch so we'll see.

My LEDS for the cruise switch were slightly larger than the OEM ones so I could not put it back together at work.I had to drive home with no cruise control but fortunatly for you guys my camera is here so I've included some pics.I'm just gonna open up the 3 holes in the plastic where those LEDs go and the new ones will fit nicely.

My camera is not the best or even close to it but at least, heres a pic of the inside of the cruise switch.

They work. I bought the direct replacement bulbs and there was only one *minor* gripe about them, they fit but wiggle. I put a dab of hot glue on and it fit fine. I then just used the replacement wedge LED's and shaved the top down and opened the parts on the cruise, a/c, etc. Fit fine and work perfectly.

So let me get this right . Yoyu put glass bulbs for the speedometer and led's for the hvac/cruise/etc..... ??

Almost all of the bulbs in the car are actual bulbs with a filament, those will all be replaced by LEDS.The only LEDS stock on the car are in the AC switch, cruise switch, and rear defrost switch. The rest in the switches and guage cluster are all bulbs held by small plastic holders and point down in the switches, you want to replace them with leds and aim them foward. For that,I see no LEDs on autoluminaton that will work right.

That 74 bulb will probably only work for the HVAC controls which is one bulb under the AC switch,I can't see those fitting in any switch.

My advice to anyone wanting to change the color of everything on the dash, get some resistors and LEDs,no premade bulbs will fit everything. If you just want the HVAC light changed, order the 74.

I have more pics I took this morning of the lit Cruise switch that I'll post when I get home, should be pretty inspirational.I'll also take a pic of the bulb and holder that gets replaced since nobody has done that yet.

Thought that between the #74's the led and the glass bulb I could do the guage cluster and the hvac pics below

Fayt if u can please post pics of the bulbs/Leds you used would be helpfull to many

I bought those blue #74 filament bulbs from autolumination.com, they are not blue at all! :notgood: They're whiteish/purple. I also picked up some of those blue filament neo-wedges. They were blue at first, but after a week they are turning blue/green and don't glow very bright. :toobad:

I bought some real LED's and resistors off eBay and I'm going to do it right.

So theoretically I can use the #74 leds and use them in the stock twist-locs for the guage cluster ?

Well,I have not got to the guage cluster yet but I believe I saw a picture of the board behind the guages and the bulbs looked like the 2 center ones in the pic below..if anyone that has done the gauges would like to confirm that, that would be helpful. The one with the brown base came from the AC switch, and the gray base one came from the foglight switch. Those just twist into a hole on the board.

So,to answer your question,I don't think so.I also have not taken the cluster out so there may be more room than I think, someone that has done that would have to chime in.

The small LED in the pic is whats in the cruise,AC on indicator, and rear defrost switch. The large LED is what I've used to replace the filament style bulb for the HVAC,snowflake in AC switch and foglight switch so far where the small plastic base filament bulbs were.Thats where you have to get creative with aiming the leds and soldering resistors to them.Even if they had premade LEDs that fit those, they'd point down and thats just not bright enough for the switches and would leave hotspots in the gauge cluster.

The pic of the cruise switch finally came out and I got some of the RPM gauge in there so you can see how bright it is compared to the stock orangish color of all the dash lights. You can also see still how crappy my camera is as the brightness is all the way up on the dimmer and it still shows up that dull in the pic.I ran out of LEDs so the center of the cruise switch is still white but I removed the bulb cap so its brighter than stock as well.

Cruise switch needs no resistors for all but the center part I have not done, those are simple LED swaps like I had hoped for.:D

So far I'm happy with everything and can't wait to get more LEDs to start the guages, then all thats left is the hazard and rear defrost switch and to add maybe 2 auxillary leds to the HVAC,one on each side.

The guage cluster use twistlocks like the ones I posted above . They are much bigger than the fog or cruise switches. They use a #74 or #73 bulb on a twistlock base.

I hope you guys are remembering that you're going to have to sand the orange off the back of your gauge faces before the blue will shine through? Just checking!

^^ I was planning on shaving the orange film off after replacing the 5 orange gauge lights with 5 blue led's wasn't bright enough, even with all 5 led's shaved. (BTW shaving the blue led's makes them really bright for other applications in the car, like ceiling light, floor light etc replacement.)

What I did instead was order these:

They have 4 led's per bulb. Should be bright as hell, Hopefully I won't have to remove the orange film.

Are those the size #74 bulbs? Do you have a link where to buy ?

you can get them from http://www.autolumination.com/

My LED's arrived, I shaved off the tips, and installed them.. still got an ugly ghostly greenish grey color.

Took off the gauge faces themselves, wet-sanded off the orange coating with 320 grit.

Now I get really bright, really blue gauges but they are TOO bright, (WAY too bright LOL) and I am getting severe hot-spotting.. turns out that coating on the back of the gauge faces also prevents hot-spotting :(

I am still trying to remedy this, I'll post again with pics when I figure it out.

Ok,here ya go....what about spraying the backs of the guages with a glass frosting spray, like you would use for a light table? Its purpose is to diffuse light so I don't think it would hurt and actually dim some hotspots. It would essentialy be the same thing and purpose as the orange coating but clear so it wouldn't mess with the blue.

You think you can post pics of the "too bright" blue lights. Why dont you guys use the factory dimmer switch to just lean them out a bit. DOes it not work after LED installment?

I just bought the regular 74 leds... I'm gunna sand the orange off the gauges and then cut the tips on the leds. Hopefully they won't be as bright as your 4leds per bulb.

I do use it, but my HVAC then becomes too dim.. so you can see my problem heheheh.

I will try using some matte spray on the backs of the gauges, and post before and after pics.

Have you thought about putting your other 74 leds back in? Maybe the 4 LED single bulbs are just to bright. BTW just ordered green #74 LEDs to make my cluster match my greddy gauges. Can't wait :p

I was looking at my 1g and noticed the ignition keyhole led needs to be changed too. any idea what kind of bulb goes in there?

I haven't got to that ignition ring yet but someone on the first couple pages mentioned they did it...so it at least can be done.

I just got some more LED's yesterday so I'm gonna see what I can do with my guages this weekend, then I would only have the center of the cruise, rear defrost, hazard, ignition ring, and lighter ring left to do.I'll post pics of how it goes.

Hey beatsack I just bought the number 74 bulbs for my 1g eclipse and I cant see how they fit into the cluster. The bulbs I have screw into the back of the cluster. The ones that they sent clearly plug into a socket of some kind. Am I missing something?

What about the cigarette lighter? The piece is amber, and even the brightest LEDs don't seem to shine color through. Has anyone had success with that? any ideas maybe?

I know that on 2g's you have to pull the bulb out of the twistlocks and insert the new ones. Should be the same for
1g's . Try that

Afetrmarket lighter replacements like they sell at strauss or autozone or pep boys sometimes have green or clear rings searech there.
