Well, they look like them. Why don't you use a 17mm socket and a 24mm socket and find out. :thumb:

No, Seriously.... Those are the correct drain and fill bolts for your application.

Hey guys, Im trying to replace my tranny fluid and am a little confused. I searched but I did not find my answer.

Ok so I am unsure which plug is the drain plug, where I think it should be is an empty hole. But there's no way ive been driving for a month with no tranny fluid right?

If that's true then Im looking at the wrong bolt.

If anyone has a picture of where the bolts are on a 1g please post them. Ive been trying to use the vfaq on it but I don't have a bolt where they say I should have one. Any help/pics would be awesome right now as im underneath my car:thumb:

thanks, I think I found the drain plug. Is it that ridiculously big flat bolt inbetween 2 smaller bolts at the rear of the tranny? It also seems to be the lowest part of the tranny which makes sense. Ill give it a shot.

If memory serves, the tranny drain plug is 22mm facing down and towards the front of the car, I don't see how you can mistaken it with any other plug. If the empty hole you speak of is facing directly towards the front of the car, it's probably the fill plug.

To make your life easier stop by WalMart and pick up one of those cheap outboard oil pumps that screw onto the top of your fluid container. It's much easier than snaking a funnel and hose into the fill plug and spilling oil all over the place.

Have fun,

Andy

hmm, vfaq said it was 24 mm and a 7/8 ratchet was just slightly too small ( I don't know how that converts to metric though) But the bolt faces the passenger side wheel and is almost level with the ground, so its perpedicular to the front of the vehicle. Its the only bolt on the underside of the tranny that is that big so it must be it.

Im waiting for the liquid wrench to soak in because these bolts are a pain to get off, ill keep y'all posted;)

Ha yeah thanks, I think I might do that.

Just as I feared, there is insufficient room to get a ratchet and bar on there. There's only like 4 inches of space between the drain bolt and what looks like the frame or something. The ratchet I just bought at the auto parts store fits snugly but is like 3 inches long and I just cannot get the bar hooked up to it because of clearance issues.

Should I remove the frame? What else can I try?

Hey guys I think I have a different transmission than what I'm supposed to have. This is because I don't have a drain bolt where I should. Ill upload a pic

The big empty hole is the fill bolt that I removed and the drain bolt should be below it to the left but theres nothing there as you can see.

Alrite i feel your pain your new and you dsm needs your help! so go out an dpick up a chilton manuel it will point out which hole you need to drain the drain will be on the lower part of the tranny and the fill hole is the bigger one all you need to do it fill it up to the line~!! make sure its all drained dont want toleave no old fluid in there! soi good luck and make sure you put enough gear oil, alrite well good luck and go buy the manuel its like 15 bucks and it will last you a lonig time! and you walys need it

thanks but i have the plymouth laser cd with the vfaq on it as well but that is not my problem. The problem is that the trannsmission in my car doesn't have the drain bolt where it should and therefore renders all chiltons and haynes useless.

I just poured some synchroshift into the fill hole and closed it because I wasted my whole day trying to do this crap and im tired of it.

The drain hole is located on the section that is slanted right before it flattens out again at the bottom of the tranny. If you have a 4g63 turbo car, then you have the tranny that is on the vfaq and/or manuals.

The picture you show is the flat section facing forward. You need to go all the way to the left and then down where the trans is slanted. It's the wide flat 24mm bolt. I use a 1/2 inch rachet.

yep defnitley in the front lower left hand corner should have a little sheild around the left side of it too, 24mm and use a 1/2 inch drive liek everyone said maybe some pb blaster make sure you replace the crushwachers.

Should this be visible without moving the plastic shield? Because I'm pretty sure there is nothing there.

A better questions would be how far is the drain bolt from the filler bolt? If someone knew the answer I would know for certain which bolt is which If I do find it.

Pics are great too;)

Its all the way down at the left bottom edge of the trans and its wide, you can't miss it. Too dark for me to take a pic...tomorrow i can.

It's right next to the plastic shield.

Looking at your picture, your drain hole should be located at the edge of that bottom linear hump.

Keep in mind it does not look like a conventional bolt, its flat and wide.

If the fill hole (17mm) represents the center of a clock, the drain hole (24mm) is approximately 8" from the fill hole at 7 1/2 o'clock. Can you tell us what part of the tranny your picture was taken from? I don't see anything close to what you have on my spare 90' tranny sitting in front of me. Was it the front of the tranny?

I see..It was of the front of the tranny though. Sorry about the crappy quality of these pics; they were taken with my cell phone and I used christmas lights for illumination.

Hopefully this picture will clarify the direction and orientation.
