I was thinking about making a FIAV bypass plate while i gather money for a new engine. Before I do this, I want to know the pros and cons for this. And is it a good idea?

I had a FIAV plate before and didn't really care for the way it sealed against the throttle body. I ended up with tiny leaks that bothered me. I would suggest this way instead, plus it's free: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-intake-exhaust/320951-fiav-adjustment-disable.html

If you live in a cold climate you could potentially have startup issues without the FIAV, but I never experienced any problems here in Colorado. My car isn't daily driven, though, but even on cold days it still seems to start fine.

Yea i read something like this the other day but not as descrptive. So doing this mod will just cure idle surge? i live in PA and we do get some cold winter days. But I HATE the surging!

This will only cure idle surging if the FIAV is bad. If it's not, you'll still have idle surge. Have you checked everything else like the ISC, the ecu, the idle switch, the throttle cable adjustment, etc?

Loop the FIAV lines into themselves, unplug the ISC, and set the idle with the BISS while the car is warm. You will have to pedal it a bit when it is super cold out, but not further than the end of your street. Also, if you don't like it, it's nothing permanent.

No ISC will give a check engine light, which bothers some people. If mine isn't on, I get worried.

My check engine light came on once since ive had it. That was right as it blew up LOL. But yea i have checked everything. My talon surges till its warm. Then it finally idles.

If you were to do this method, free mod without using the bypass plate, can you still eliminate the coolant lines or no?

If not, can I just loop them?

Yes, you can eliminate the coolant lines running to the throttle body with the free FIAV mod. Just remove those coolant lines and connect them together. :thumb:
