Firstly, I looked at the VFAQ and all the posts on the subject.
I am getting a leak of air since installing the bypass plate(no idle surge anymore :hellyeah:, but no boost :ohdamn: , was boosting 18 lbs before barely hitting 8 now LOL). My question is do you put some kind of rtv between the plate and upper TB?? The bottom has the gasket, so I know there are no problems there. Thanks everyone!!!

My injector rings(bottom portion) were leaking.

I installed the plate and had a leak. So I put RTV on both sides and let cure 24 hrs. Still have leak!! Not 100% sure if it is plate. Removed plate and still have leak. Removing EGR and installing plate to see what happens. I hope someone can try and enlighten me about the plate (lines have a hose in loop).

Thanks

since there is something sandwiched between there you need to get another gasket. part number is MD614406 and i would just get 2 of them to replace the old one anyway. if this doesn't seal it up then you have other issues. rtv and copper spray will not work, and will not seal something like this that is "o-ringed" for a gasket.

One half (the throttle body half) has the recess for the gasket. The FIAV section is flat with no recess. Thus why I said to put a bead of RTV around the FIAV side and use a gasket on the throttle body side. I can't imagine trying to bolt down the FIAV with another gasket in there, especially put in a place where there is no recess for it. I've put together at least 6 with bypass/block off plates the way I suggested and have yet to have a leak. I actually took two apart not too long ago and the plate was a pain to get off the FIAV as the RTV held that well.

yeah, you're right. it's been a while since i ripped on off and eliminated the fiav from the inside! i would use copper spray then if time is a matter. you gotta wait like 10-15 minutes for it to get tacky. also if you use rtv don't just glob it on there. you gotta spread it out to be thin.

just take the plate out, pop out your freeze plug, taker needle nose pliers and tighten the spring down the whole way no more problems. ill see if i can find the wright up from rre.

Where would you use copper spray? On the rubber FIAV gasket?

between the plate and fiav/iac assembly...

i tried this already and the valve stopped turning before it reached where it could seal. i have always just cut the crap off with a saw and jb-welded to holes inside shit and also used a piece of aluminum pipe. usually the cheap pipes used for coat hanger racks in closets is about the perfect size. this way it looks cleaner and doesn't look like there is supposed to be something hooked up. that piece with the coolant crap is huge and sticks out pretty damn far.
