I just recently purchased my 97 talon esi n/t with 110k miles on the body, but the guy I bought it from said he had the motor rebuilt but put about 2k into it when doing so.. what I'm trying to figure out is what the hell costed him 2k to rebuild it? as far as what I can see the only things that arent stock is the injectors ( I believe they are a little bigger then the stock ones ) and the header, but I'm not even sure what that it is.. probably some ebay garbage. Now, the car runs ####ing great.. but I do plan to add some more spice to it.. how would you guys suggest I go about finding out what exactly isn't stock, and what is.. I do eventually plan on going turbo with it, but I'm going to focus on building the internals first.

p.s. I'm obviously new to this and any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, my father has a shit ton of different ase certs. but I refuse to let him help me :3 trying to prove to him that I can figure out how to fix/build my car and do my own research with out him. thanks :thumb:

Probably shop labor prices is why it cost that much. Just buy forged internals and search a turbo of your power goal. Only thing its ganna cost more then a 4g63t.

Well if he didn't state what was put into it, then all you can do is start going through everything and identifying aftermarket parts. Mostly everything will be marked/labeled so shouldn't be hard to tell.

If he says he put $2000 into the engine most would assume that means internals (pistons, rods and bearings) were changed. Changed to what (aftermarket or different OEM parts) is the question? You're going to have to tear it apart if you're really curious, if not then you just have to take his word.

that's what I figured but he kept implying that he rebuilt it himself, so that's why I'm unsure what exactly is even in the car ha. I guess I can't complain though cause the thing runs great. as far as forged internals go, do you have any experience with crower rods or should I just go with the cheaper eagle ones ( I assume it also depends on how much I'm trying to put this motor through ) as far as boost goes when ever I get a chance to get everything together to turbo it my goal is for around 10-15lbs. I have no intentions of turning my talon into a track eating machine but just something that if i feel like getting on it i wont be let down ya know? and I know, I've been reading alot about how the 4g63t is the better option as far as price efficiency goes. But I'm not sure I'd be ready to take on that kinda swap, and I dont wanna get a different car I love my talon already :3

not trying to be a dick LOL, but leave the psi goals for the Honda brats. around here we're more interested in hearing power goals. example: I want 300 whp, what can get me there. anywho, is there any way you can contact the guy and find out exactly what he did?

but but but but honda so fast! vtec go bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaap

but no for real, I sent him an email the other day regarding it but he never got back to me. I do know he's out of the country right now so that may be why. I think I'll start tearing the motor down tomorrow, at least then I'll know for sure what's what.

off topic question but I'm sure you guys can help me with it, he also removed the wing from the back, and didnt get rid of the (bolts?) that the wing goes on around the back window. and theres also 2 holes where I assume the wing also bolted to that if I leave the car outside of the shop and it rains, im ####ed. Would bondo be my best bet for this situation?
