I don't know for sure which is the best head gasket to go with, but I hear a lot about the Cometic gasket. I'm used to the head gasket of choice being a Felpro, but I hear of so many different companies making them now.

They make a Felpro for my 2g, and I was wondering what your opinion is of it. Even if it's not the best gasket in the world, how does it stand up to the competition, and how does it compare to the stock gasket?

to give you an idea. I bought the complete felpro gaskets set for the head. I used every gasket exept the head gasket itself. I went with the cometic because it is superior to the felpro. I called cometic straight to the factory and gave em the specs to my motor (bore and all that) and they sent it straight to my door.

Even came with a free sticker that i slapped onto my tool chest. :thumb:

I paid $95 plus the shipping. I still have the felpro gasket if you want it. send me an email to [email protected]. I will just give it to ya if you want to send me like five bucks for the shipping. OMG haha..

I like the stock gaskets better than the aftermarket ones. Reason being is that Id rather replace a head gasket than tear apart a bottom end because the detonation chose to take the piston as a path out of the combustion chamber.

if you are just replacing the gasket and dont plan on going with big mods like a big turbo or somthing than the fel-pro one is fine. The cometic that I used has proven itself on motors with 900hp and pushing 32psi.

Thats funny, on a properly tuned engine a stock one works fine. As long as there is no "extreme" outward force on it such as detonation. Ive ran 30 psi on pump gas with my 2.4 and 60 trim and it held up fine. Keep in mind that I did that when I was pissed off my wheel bearings went out. I love to abuse the car I work so hard on to keep running.

Im getting really tired of these "aftermarket" manufacturers convincing you guys that you need all of this "extra stuff" on your motors. The best way to deal with these cars is the kiss method. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID Ever since I started doing that my dsm is so much less of a headache to me.

I am running a Felpro head gasket on my 2G 6-bolt with Ross 9:1 pistons. I am using ARP studs. My compression is exactly 178 psi in all 4 with less than 2% leakdown. This is after 7K miles driving daily on 20-21 psi. Topped the car off with race gas and drove around on 23-24 psi on stock cams pushing roughly 40 lbs/mi. At the end of the week I went to the track and my clutch decided to go. Still ran a 13.3@103! I've also had a malfunctioning wastegate and was spiking to 40+ psi. (did it maybe 4-5 times while trying to fix) I'm amazed at what it has taken!

I like that way of thinking, 2.4 turbo. All I know is that a good Felpro gasket USED TO be just find on small block Chevy's making over 600 HP, and I didn't think that Felpro would reduce the quality of their gaskets over the few years I've been out of the loop.

Yeah the KISS method is alot easier on your wallet too. :thumb:

For our cars, I like the Cometic gaskets better because they are alot like the MLS Mitsubishi gaskets. And the OEM MLS gasket works great. But on the other hand, I do sell alot more Felpro than Cometic. :dsm:

So I don't understand which hg does everyone recommend? The felpro. Only reason I was getting the 4layer one because in the last year I've had to pull the head off 3 times and I'm tired of having to buy a new one. What will fit a 2.4 block .20 over? Thanks
=Jason-

I also have the felpro head gasket from autozone and arps. So far so good. compare one side by side with the stock mitsu unit and it looks identical. only difference is the felpro is much cheaper. :thumb:
