False fried ECU experiences

So, I have a problem with my car. I believe the ECU is toast to a degree. Replaced the caps and the car runs, but runs pig rich and when logging it acts like its going on and off. I am just trying to figure out what else to possibly look at before buying a new ECU.

So, my question for everyone is, have you had situations where your symptoms lead you to believe you had a bad ecu, but it was something else? If so, what were they?

Anytime I've ever suspected the ECU, it was the ECU.

My symptoms were always poor operation, no / little alternator charging, when you hook up the logger the engine temps would jump around from -84* to 240*....stuff like that. Very easy to diagnose.
