I did a search for 'fake DSMLink' and couldn't find anything.

When buying a used DSMLink that comes with the cable and the chip, how do you know if it is fake or real? I don't see how hard it would be for someone to copy the chip and make a cable and sell it for a lot less than $500+. So how would I stay away from buying a fake USED version that doesn't come with any support?

I did find that I can get information from the original buyer and have the ownership transferred through DSMLink over an e-mail, but how can I check if it is legit before I send a paypal transfer to buy it?

Any ideas?

Ask the guy for the verification code. Then check if dsmlink mods if it is real or not. Thats the only way. I did that when I bought my used one. Ask him to take a picture of the chip.

To verify that you have a valid DSMLINK. I would have the seller contact the admins at the forum and then have the admins e-mail you a form or any other proof that the dsmlink your wishing to purchase would be a valid and original DSMLINK chip.

So.... I found a guy selling DSMLink with the chip, cable and Eprom ECU for $400 and he only accepts moneygram. Something smells fishy...

Well I sell on ebay and only except money orders. Havent crossed a person YET and Never will. I cant get pay pal because of bank issues but that will be fixed in december!

Yeah for some reason if someone will not take paypal I will not buy from them. I have been screwed to many times.

Thanks, I got a PM from a member here that he was ripped off buy a member who had a very similar user name. I'm going to pass on this one.

If you are really that concerned about buying something like DSMLink, you can find a place to put it in escrow. That way you have to be completely satisfied (you'll have time to see if it is real) before the money get sent to the seller. If i was buying something expensive for my car from a non vendor, that's what I would do just to be safe with my money.

Yeah, I thought using escrow, but since his DSMLink belonged to a friend and he had a few other red flags, I decided against the purchase.
