fake carbon fiber hood, hood painted to look like CF

How is this fad still popular? Help me understand why an unpainted body panel surrounded by painted body panels looks good. 9999/10000 people on the street will look at it and think it's an unpainted panel. I see that all the time on cars here in Detroit. If the whole car was CF that would be fine, but otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb.

And for the performance of it, if 100lbs = .01 faster in the qtr mile, how much faster are you with a 500 dollar CF hood? If you're gonna get one, fine, just paint it atleast. Anyone in the know that cares will see it when the hood is popped and appreciate it...

The people arguing that painting a hood to look like CF is rice opposed to getting a CF hood and leaving unpainted is not rice really leaves me scratching my head.

*shrug*

My 1G came with a poorly repainted hood and I wieghed the options of repainting it. It was black on a white car so everyone asked if it was CF anyway. I told them it was "poly-p" - way cooler than CF. (polypropylene is what milk jugs are made out of.)

I had some fun and went with the VIS CF hood (which I love) and tell kids it is a new material called "poly-p". The nice thing about the Evo II style VIS hood is that the vents make a noticable difference when the engine is getting warm and it has a plate that you can screw on to keep out rain on the nasty wet days.

I would rather have no hood than a fake carbon fiber hood.

Shoot, and I still don't know why people don't paint their real carbon fiber hoods to match their car? :confused:

Some supercars are made out of carbon fiber and they don't show off just the hood. They keep it under paint for the most part.

The reason for getting a hood in carbon fiber is to save weight.If you paint it you are just adding more weight to something you are ttrying to keep as light as possible.

Yes im serious.I do agree that the weight savings is minimal but there is a reason these parts are designed and produced and actually used all over the world.

100lbs = a tenth faster, not a hundredth

Some people are just too lazy to paint their CF hood. If it doesn't make the car look like shit, why bother painting over it? However, why paint a stock hood into CF if the rest of the car isn't CF? That makes scratch my head. Like I said, a real CF hood will still win in weight savings.
