A single coat of watered down blue then two coats of clear. Now that Ive seen it in the sun I think it should have been more translucent and the metallics taken out.Not the best shots since it was cloudy outside.

This is what I was actually looking to do, I'm just iffy about it since my car is white.

I think yours looks really good!

Looks pretty good. I like the fact you can still tell it's carbon fiber underneath. Still not sure if I like "bare" carbon fiber or painted though. I'm really picky, and it seems impossible to paint over the stuff and have it match up perfectly with the fenders/rest of the car.

Either way, looks like it turned out nice.

I really like it! Might try this in red. Did you remove all the clear coat from the hood before applying the blue or was this applied to a small leftover portion of the clear coat already existing?

I hand blocked the clear that came on the hood with some 800 grit just so the paint would stick, then sprayed a single coat of over reduced blue followed by 2 coats of clear. If I could do it again ,I would have used more reducer.

I did something very similar on my old GSX. I had the hood sprayed with a Ford Strawberry Red Pearl that was translucent, followed by a heavy coat of clear. Turned out nice and made it lool like a red kevlar hood. Too bad I totaled that car and broke the spine of the hood.

I agree, more reducer probably would've made the carbon show through more. But overall, good work :)

What do you mean gone?Flaked off?

It was damaged from a "hood liftoff" so I sanded it down since some parts had no clear coat left (very small regions near the hood/hinge area). Was starting to redo the clear coats but I stopped thinking maybe a paint match (fully red) would look better until I came across your thread. A bit of both worlds would work better in my opinion. Still matches better but I'll see a bit of the cf.

That looks GOOD man, very unique. Way to step out of the box. Now that I see this, I plan on doing the same to my car. Mine is grey pearl so it will probably be easier to match, but yours is something else. Get a front/slightly to the side view picture of the car so you can truly see the difference, but I like what I see regardless

Thanks,Ill get better pictures once the sun comes out.Btw my car used to be the same color as yours and yea,it should be an easier color to match.

Thats awesome. Ive been contemplating the same on my cayenne red pearl. Getting tired of the CF hood.

I think it looks fine. I just did a clear coat on on carbon fiber hood with a blue flake in it. Can't even see the flake unless the sun comes out. But yours looks fine, I like it.

I'm impressed. I have a black car so I doubt I could do this LOL. But I think it looks fine. The carbon fiber shows through just enough to know what it is but it still retains the blue color across the car. Now only if my car was red... :sneaky:

that's pretty tough. the lighting on the last one makes it look too dark. Im not usually a fan of carbon fiber at all. I like this.

This.

Not sure if its just the lighting or what not, but its just a tad dark. But it looks good, I like that you can see the CF, I had always considered trying this on my car, but decided to just stick with the stock hood.
