Be sure to set your timer folks, Formula One - Dutch - Practice session 1 starts at 3:30 AM PDT

It feels like forever ago last they ran - I got desperate and watched the F1 Movie - (I have concerns) it is still a ? but worth a watch - not good enough to satisfy the gap in schedule

I still haven't watched it. No movie they make about racing will ever be very good because of what they do for dramatic effect to appeal to the larger audience. I'll always like the documentaries they make about racing more than any movie (like Senna), though I do think Rush was pretty decent.

I personally love the in car camera stream you can watch - no commentary, no radios (although I wish there was radio) You can view the various in-car - even after the race is over. At 33min and 40 sec into the Dutch GP, there is a view looking backwards from Russell's P5 to Hamilton's P6 right when Hamilton loses the back end and crashes out, ending his run.

Later you can see Lando's P2 forward facing in-car when he is chasing P1 Oscar, right when Lando's engine fails.

Its so lucky to see these two events in the stream which were extremely significant to the outcome of the race.

For me, Racing is dramatic enough as is. You don't need to make a racing story dramatic. When they cut out drama (like qualifying) to make room for multiple made-up sequences to push a comeback story narrative, it got tedious. They did some amazing things in the filming - the sound and visual immersion was amazing - there were parts of the racing where you got a feeling of what was happening inside the helmet. I was hooked with the 24hr at Datona during the night time stint (the BMW ball cap - and the intel he collected had me cracking up on re-watch), and the final sequence when Brad Pit's character achieves an untouchable flow was pretty powerful emotionally. I'm sad for the moments when it was awkward and contrived - but I get what they were going for.

Yeah the cupboard was bare in August. WEC had nothing during that period either. But this weekend (Sept 7) we have both. F1 in Italy and WEC in Texas. So there you go, feast or famine. I can't stand the drama queen stuff either, the hype, etc. I'd rather spend the time using google ai to read about G48 antifreeze for my old BMW or something like that (BMW GS 94000 spec). It's an exercise in asking the right questions and evaluating the answers. Very fun.
Onward to Monza 🙂
WEC should be on Motor Trend TV.

Man, it was finally an interesting and exciting finale. Like others, I was wondering if they were going to penalize Norris on that pass, but I'm glad they didn't, as Yuki's defense was really extreme and pretty dangerous. I couldn't fault Norris from being a little extra cautious on avoiding that. It would have been devastating if the race director would have made that call, reminiscent of 2021. Fun season, lots of respect for Max coming from so far back the second half of the season. Really hope Ferrari finally gets their shit together next season - that team has been a dumpster fire. I'd like to see Hamilton be competitive again, but I'm thinking he might have lost his confidence dealing with the past two shitty car designs of this rules package. Who knows.

I do think the podium was a weird event, Max on the top step winning the race, but the real victory is in Lando‘s hands.

Ferrari needs to fix their car. An 8 time world champion doesn’t forget how to drive.

Wow - did you see the last race of 2025? Amazingly tense finaly - and an emotional win.
Yeah I think it was the most interesting to watch of the whole season. So close at the end. Glad that McLaren didn't just totally run away with the whole thing like they were earlier in the season. Max only 2 points less than Norris in the final points total, and he won 6 of the last 9 races. Holy cow, really closing up on it at the end. Piastri the youngest of them and a likeable guy too. So a really good season for all 3 or those guys. Much more interesting than one guy just running away with it. I wish that Leclerc could have joined them to make it 4.

Next year is going to be all new cars with dynamic aero, no DRS, two more cars added to the grid with an additional team, and a shift in manufactures - bringing Audi, and Cadillac into the mix. Should be interesting.

I was shocked at the number of men that felt compelled to touch Lando's hair after the race? That was kinda icky. I mean - He's a world champion F1 driver! not your good luck charm dude...
