I just ordered a 38mm external wastgate for my 16g so im gonna be welding the wastgate flapper shut. Im wanting to mount the 38mm wastgate on the stock 2g manifold. Anyone have some pics so i can get a ideal on were i should mount it.

Any help would be great!
 
You just look at Slowboy manifolds and you'll get the idea. Anyway this is kind of wrong, regardless of what someone would tell, how his WG is working perfect.

You better off put it on O2 housing, this way it would draw air from all 4 cylinders, not only one, plus you don't have to worry about cracking.
 
Thanks for the help man. This is kinda what i had in mind. One of my friends did this to his car and he said it helped controll his boost ALOT.

I bought an ebay tubular recurculating o2 housing. I cut the wastegate tube and welded the flanges for my TiAL knock off from ebay. It's rock solid from 5 to 30 psi, where ever I set it. And has been reliable.
 
Mine works great. Regulates boost just fine. Just get it as close to the collector as possible.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't the most efficient way of mounting the EWG especially on a smaller hot sided turbo(not saying you have a small hotside). think of the amount of gas that is being dumped or recirculated , that air is being pushed through the tiny hotside just to be dumped. its less restrictive to dump the air pre-turbo to help cut down on back pressure.

I see your point, but the wastegate opening is well before the airflow is actually channeled into the turbine housing. Personally, I feel that wastegates on the o2 housing is the better choice because it's bypassing air from all (4) cylinders around the turbine housing....not just airflow from cylinder #1 and the small amount of pressure that may reach the dump flange from cylinders 2, 3, and 4.

Here's some food for thought....FP does NOT sell a manifold with a wastegate flange on it. They draw all of their turbos from the o2 housing location:

But then again, FP isn't known to build fast, reliable turbo setups either. :rolleyes:

I correct you young man :).

All wastegate flow is dumped preturbo or the wategate wouldn't work. Think, think, think about this. NO DIFFERENT AT ALL to a collector mounted wastegate.

Update: Hey guys so today i went down to a local machine shop and they charged me only 25 bucks to drill the hole!!! A buddy of mine works at a muffler shop he did the welding. What do you guys think?

Looks good. I'm guessing your friend already knows this, but pre-heating the cast iron, and letting it cool down slowly is the key to reduce internal cracking from a mild steel to cast iron weld joint. You can hear the metal snapping into place if you don't cool it properly.

Also, it's not the ideal location according to theory, but it does work, and you already have it done. So go out and be happy with it : D
 
awsome guys thanks. Im gonna install everything tomorrow i will talk some more pics and keep you guys updated.

Im also wanting to route the external gases out threw the side of the front bumper. Any tips or pics of this would be great!

Did you open the collector area up to match a 7cm2 gasket, or did you just port the collar out of the inside of the 6cm2 hole? It's hard to tell from the pics.

If you just ported out the collar, you'll want to keep going to make sure you get the full 7cm2 opening to match your turbo.
