Does anyone know the difference in putting the wastegate on the o2 housing or exaust manifold? Is there a performance differenc or is it just a hood clearance issue?

Doesn't make any difference. I don't believe there is even a hood clearance issue on a 2G. I have heard some guys say they had a slight problem with a dent on their 1G, but you could use a Turbosmart 38mm gate because it's about 1/2" shorter than a Tial gate is.

If you are concerned about the sound at all, you should consider this. If you place the WG on the exhaust manifold, you will be dumping off of one cylinder only and dumping very close to the exhaust point of entry. The result is a very loud and raspy dump.

If you mount the WG on the downpipe, you are dumping off of all 4 cylinders. The result is still very loud, but much cleaner sounding (a loud whoosh or hiss in a sense). I have heard both in person, and a WG dumping off all 4 sounds much cleaner and meaner IMO. The single runner dump is just too raspy and will give you a headache over time.

Just something I always like to point out in threads like this about WG placement.

It depends upon what manifold you are going to use. It is right about dumping it off one runner how it sounds raspy but you could have a manifold like the agp/sfp one, here the gate comes off where all four runners meet. This is usually louder than one dumping off an O2 housing. I have one from victory performance and its awsome. Fits my apexi downpipe.

If you were dumping after the turbo, it would not help you to control boost. All wastegates dump before the turbo.

I was just about to say this... Indeed their is no point post turbo.

Are you wanting to do an external dump or just an external wastegate? External wastegates don't have to be dumped externally, right?

Sergiosdsm, I have an O2 housing from Victory Performance and it fits my APexi downpipe and no external wastegates do not have to be dumped externally. I know Victory Performance has a choice between two O2 housings, one can be dumped externally and one can be rerouted back into the exhaust.

that is a very nice o2 housing. i was just on their website and i dont even want to know their prices for their products.

got mine at RNR Racing. go to there website. awesome o2 housing and about 1/2 of what Victory charges.

RNR Racing or Victory Performance both makes the o2 housings with the ext wastegate flange on it. they can be externally dumped or back into the o2 housing.
