Toronto,
Can i remove a internal WasteGate on a turbo and run a External wastegate?

Would I just need the External flange on the exhaust side to cover the hole?

Yes you can remove the wastegate from an internal and make it external. But you have to get a o2 housing with an external dump and that is where you mount your external wastegate to. Easiest thing I think to do is just weld it to the o2 housing external dump about 2-3 inches away and pointing down to keep hot exhaust gases from entering your engine compartment and heatsoaking everything.

what else needs to be done for this to work proper
do i need to remove the internal part for the stock wastegate or no

The best way to do it in my opinion is to weld the internal wastegate swiingarm shut and weld a flange onto your exhaust manifold. Then get a tial external wastegate and run a dumptube

I find my external wg really annoying. I would love to have a recirculated one. Op, it will sound awesome for a while but does get annoying

so stupid question what makes the little woooosh sound

but i like it and i like being loud around town low rpm plus lots of buildings=loud noise ROFL

What whooosh sound are you referring to ? The one you hear on fast and furious (no flaming please LOL) if so that is a blow off valve . They come in all flavors and sounds. On the other hand the wastegate will make noise when vented (dumped) only when you are building boost though :thumb:

thought so just trying to fill my posts up

just trying to figure out how to get the thing to work w/o the external wastegate i guess

Dumping gets annoying over time. WOT at night is a No No. But I still love it!

Take the internal gate off the turbo then either weld the flapper and run the wastegate on the manifold or get an o2 housing for an external gate and walah you have an externaly wastegated. Then you need to decide wether or not you want it recirculated.

ok awsome..........but just curious how to run w/o wastegate and straight dump pipe

If you don't run an external gate, you will need an internal one. If you don't want the obnoxious sound of the exteernal gate, then run a recirculated pipe from the external wastegate to the downpipe ( will need someone to weld that on too the downpipe for you). Op I have some parts you may be interested in. Pm for details.

i tried to pm you but its not working so......pm me

I would cut the hole flapper out and weld the hole on the hot side closed where the flapper came through the hot side. And run the waste gate off the o2 houseing.

what way is more horsepower

LOL

a good tune with proper supporting mods will net the most horsepower.

Its for the driver to decide. According to you profile you have the stock 2g exhaust manifold. If you are planning on running it off the manifold, you will either need to buy a new manifold with a wastegate provision or weld on on. the O2 housing option is always available since you can just replace the restrictive stock one (whether you dump to atmosphere or not).
