internal vs external wastegate

I am running the PTE SCM-5031E, internally gated. i am running 22psi on this setup. My Q is, what would be the outcome of upgrading to external gate, or is the money better spent elsewhere?

If you go with an externally gated setup, it will eliminate any boost creep issues you might have.

I was wondering why the External BLV was classafied "Race use only". I'm thinking of buying one someday.

Is it too loud for the street? or-- will it only work on "high horsepower" cars.

as what i always say "if is not broken, don't fix it" i mean if you don't have any boost creep, spike, or such,and boost is set and stay where you want it, then don't bother upgarding.

All external wastegate's are techincally "race use only" because they dump exhaust gas to atmosphere without going through a cat or anything like that. They are loud but that isn't as big of a deal as the emmisions aspect of it.

Technically not all of them are. Here's my TiAL 38mm re-routed to the front of the downpipe. Entry is flush with the bottom of the bend and none of the dump pipe protrudes into the intake stream. While my setup is custom, DNP also offers a tubular manifold and O2 setup that re-routes into the O2 housing. It's pricey, but quiet.

I do agree though that unless you do a custom setup, these will dump to atmosphere. Some like it, but I couldn't stand the noise and the fact that people would fall off their bicycles as I rode past with the gate open (no joke).

Not all external wastegates are "race use only" because you can get an external gate on the o2 housing and route it back to your exhaust. If you have an Evo III type turbo, you'll need to port it inorder to run external off the o2 housing. Here is a pic of an external gate o2 housing rerouted with internal dump.

The DNP kit Andy was talking about is this one for $999. It is sexy , but expensive.

Running without a cat would be considered "race legal only", so would venting a catch can or removing the charcoal canister. But a lot of people who don't live in CA, do it.
