I was thinking about getting a Holset through The Turbo Trader and was wondering if anyone has dealt with them and what kind of experience they had. Thanks!

I've never heard anything bad about them, only positive. If you're going to get a Holset, I would recommend buying one off Ebay, getting the BEP 0.55 A/R turbine housing and bolting it all together. I just bought one a few months ago and it cost me less than $450 for everything.

agreed, you can save a little money as well as get a better turbo. My hx-35 expense:
Hx35 7 blade turbo $245
BEP .55AR bolt on housing from BEP $220
Full turbo rebuild and ceramic coating on CHAR $115
$580 dollars for a turbo that is 10 second capable:thumb:

I agree go with ebay if your looking for a holset. Those things are strong and can take a beating so you'll rarely find one that isn't manageable. I only saw a hx40 on that site and they are 999. A hx35 can be had easily under 400 in the classifieds or ebay.

Edit: Found the hx35 still 875.

Thanks for the responses. I just am one of morons who spends more because he prefers new.

I see excellent condition Holsets in the $3-400 range, plus a new BEP housing is $380. Lets add shipping, and we're talking at least $750. For a little more, I can get a brand new turbo. Thats just how I look at it. And yes it is "expensive" but thats pretty much the range of any other bolt on journal bearing turbo. I was even conisdering a brand new FP3065 but thats $1500!

I agree its a way better feeling having something new compared to used. Its nice that they sell the hx35 with everything needed to install though. Way more convenient then piecing it together.

The new SS bep housing is $280 :) And that is with the internal gate. And you can get one with just the hole for $220 and run an external gate as recommended off the o2 housing.

Nick at the turbotrader is awesome. I bought the last .55 a/r turbine housing from him when it was off of ebay. I called him up and he worked a deal out for me. He's a good, stand-up guy. Id but everything from him if possible. GO EXTERNAL!!! I've done internal, and it's not worth it.

I called Nick at the turbo trader last friday to order my BEP housing....It came it Tuesday of this week....3 business days and it arrived, he gets my :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Thanks for the input!

And yes, I was planning on going external ;) Thats why I have a Tial38 just sitting on the shelf, but I will most likely get one of those new V-band MS-V wastegates!

Ordered a turbo, got email it was shipped. Wasn't actually shipped waiting on some turbine housing clamps. I am in limbo out $1000 waiting for my turbo. Called Nick today, was quite speedy on the phone but said he will ship the turbo today.

Bought a housing today. He said it is being shipped tomorrow. We will see how that goes. He seemed nice to talk to.

I will be putting a full review on vendor-reviewed.com, BUT just to let everyone know:

I received my turbo today! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks to Nick for being a good guy.

Update:

Nick will no longer answer my phone calls or respond to my emails. He said he would send me some turbine housing to center section clamps. It's been over 2 weeks, and I haven't seen anything in the mail. I suggest NOT using theturbotrader.com This will be on vendor reviewed.

Almost every post in here is in violation of the forum rules. . . I think you should be open about vendor issues. If there's an issue please inform us. But there's a place for that. Everyone PLEASE comment and read in the vendor review forum.
