Anyone using exhaust manifold heat wrap on stock manifold? I would like to free up some space and get red of the heat shield, along with a t28 turbo blanked. Or just run a turbo blanked with no heat shield and leave the manifold along?

Not sure what you mean by freeing up space as both units do not take up much space. With a simple clean up, they can look quite nice while keeping under hood temps in check and protecting components such as the alternator. However, if you are looking for an alternative, I may suggest a manifold blanket instead of wrapping it. Here is a popular blanket designed to fit the OEM style manifold:

I have had mine for over a year on an HX35 running in some really hot conditions. Still in great condition. Mine actually has a provision for an external wastegate off the manifold as well.

I have not installed mine yet, as I will wait to install the FP exhaust manifold. I have seen multiple members run this particular blanket with great success. I do not know if there is an apples-apples comparison as many use the blanket for the FP manifold which, does not have provisions to mount the OEM heat shielding. Since you are interested in swapping it out, perhaps you may be able to report on this. All you would need is an infrared thermometer and take readings under various conditions. Don't forget the lower shielding is just as important as the upper piece.

I have the FP manifold blanket, The ties broke first time attempting to install so I just run it without them and tuck it on there as best I can, There is a huge difference between it being on and off.

I am using an FP manifold and I honestly think they are the same thing (the FP blanket and the ebay one) They look identical, down to the tie system.

Yep, a year later and my blanket is still holding up great. I've probably had it on and off the car half a dozen times or more, and it's still in great shape. I figured taking it on and off would trash it, but it's a solid piece.

It looks good, and does an awesome job at keeping under hood temps in check. It's much more effective than any heat shield you could put in its place. I'd highly recommend these.

Don't forget the lower shielding is just as important as the upper piece.

I was thinking about this T28 blanket as well, I will have to see if it pairs well as far as space to run the mani blanket with the turbo blanket.

@Th3ory On the ECMlink website classifieds a brand new manifold blanket just went up for $100 shipped

The blankets great, I was skeptical of spending the $100 for one but well worth it. The biggest thing I noticed after installing the blanket was how much slower my idle coolant temps increased waiting at lights. Since the blanket wraps under the manifold it shields that water pipe that runs the length of the engine block from heat soaking.

This was after I had already ceramic coated my manifold...

I just swapped turbo's again this weekend and kept my blanket off and even after a short drive this evening I cannot get anywhere near my manifold, with the blanket on I could still get near it, even touch the blanket with my hand after it sitting for a few minutes.

I was skeptical like Gofer, Didn't think it was worth it but after doing research I decided to give it a shot, Now I think it's ridiculous NOT to have some sort of heat protection.
