A couple people have told me that my exhaust smells when they're driving behind me. Everyone seems to think that it smells like someone getting perm or something. What could this be? Am I running rich?

turn your car on, let it idle....is there alot of black smoke coming out of your exhuast?...if so then yes you are running rich...(get a air/fuel gauge)

i think.....jus my 2 cents.... :thumb:

ok, if it doesnt blow black smoke out of the exhaust when your car is idleing does not mean you are not running rich when under boost. secondly, i hope you are not talking about a narrow band air/fuel guage to accurately report whether he's running rich or not. and lastly, im willing to bet that the smell your friends are smelling is coming from your catalytic converter...

why would my cat be causing that smell?

I don't see smoke at idle, but the exhaust is pretty black aroud the tips. A buddy also said they saw smoke coming out the exhaust when I got on it hard.

If you have some black smoke coming out when you get on it, then you are running rich. Do you have a logger or anything you can use to check your fuel trims?

I have had several cars with bad cats, they STINK!!! Usually its a rotten egg or decaying animal smell. not sure what a perm smells like.

Catalytic Converters cause this smell when they are going bad.
