My car is making some strange noises right now. It sounds like the car is running open down pipe. It is really loud under acceleration and it is very loud at just idle. I have a a/f and it is running just says lean, its not moving up and down. Also the boost is not rising as high. so i am to assume that it is a big leak. Im holding vaccum at 23/hg so i don't think that it is an internal problem. Also there is alot of backfire but its comming from under the hood from the sound of it.

look under your hood at the exaust manifold and head..check for loose nuts on the manifold,i think its 12 or 13mm..it will be prety noticable you'll probly see some black sout

I plan on checking tomorrow it just started doing this today so I am not sure what made it start. Now if i go through and see that the manifold is not cracked and not loose where would i go from there. but i really don't think its is inside the motor. Well at least hope not.

Yeah, seafoam your engine and then put a rag over the muffler, any exhaust leaks will leak seafoam.

I just changed the oil so... would i just suck it through the break booster and poor it in to the gas tank? I just watched a youtube of how to preform one and it looked like he poured it into the oil cap.

No.

With the car running and warmed up, pull a vaccum line on the TB (on my car I use the "P" port; 2G's may be different), and connect one end of a spare vac hose to the port, and dip the other end in a can of Seafoam. Keep the car idling with the throttle lever on the TB while it sucks in the SF. (I usually run about 1/2 a can through it).

Once you are about half-way through the can, let go of the throttle and the car will die. Let it sit for a while (30 minutes or so... don't forget to turn the key off), and then start the car.

It will run rough for a while and may not want to idle right away. There will be a TON of smoke coming out the exhaust, and you should be able to see any leaks around the turbo and manifold. The dirtier your intake tract and cylinders, the more smoke there'll be and the longer it will take to burn all that crap out of your engine.

Just make sure you pull the heat shields before you start all this so you can get a good look around for the exhaust leak(s).

BTW - I wasn't exagerating about the amount of smoke. It can be enough to get the fire department called on you and neighbors upset, so be prepared for that. And it may continue to smoke a little for a day or so as the deposits and gunk continue to burn away.

I should also mention... after you re-start it and the smoke grenade goes off, don't rev the car a lot or anything like that. Be patient and just and let the majority of the stuff burn away while idling. A few revs to 1.5 or 2k probably wouldn't hurt anything, but there isn't really need to do that.

I see... well I found the leak. The gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo broke and the bolts came loose. I called mitsu and asked them how much it would be for them to put the gasket it on just to see.. they said it would cost 550ROFL. and the part is 4.49 So tomorrow i will be fixing the leak and back up to boost.

Make sure to clean the mating surfaces really well and use new dome washers. I'd go ahead and replace the bolts/nuts as well, and if you still have the turbo stud, might as well replace it with a bolt and nut for future ease of maintenance...that is if 2G's have one like the 1G's do.

Also wouldn't hurt to put a little anti-sieze on the bolts when you put it back together.

Yeah so i started to do it today and one of the bolts is stuck on there so i have to drop the turbo now to replace the gasket. I wen to a place to see if the could losen the bolt but they said that if they broke it then they wouldn't be resposible..
