I was looking at Evo tuning.. I was bored... and I stumbled across something that they use a lot as a logger. It is called EvoScan. I went on the web site: http://www.limitless.co.nz/#SupportedVehicles, and it actually says it works with our cars too and any mitsubishi up from 94 using the "MUT/MUT-II/MUT-III protocol" for the logging... This logger logs everything including knock sum.. would it be possible that because this logger uses the Mitsubishi protocol and not the generic obd protocol that it can log things that the other generic obd2 loggers can't?

Well, I tried but with no success. I used EcuFlash 1.34 or something.

Do I need to connect the white connector of Tectrix cable too? I couldn't find a socket for it.

And which car do you have to chose, it has Evo's and STI's only :(

I downloaded EcuFlash 1.38 today, I will try to read the ROM again tomorrow.

Which drivers did you used?

I didn't realize you had a 96 car. You will have to add the flash plug to your car. Thats the connector the white plug on the tatrix cable plugs into.

Well, I tried to read the ROM via OBD2 connector only today and no luck. I used Evo5-6 option and the software just hanged :(

I need to find where I can connect that flash wire, BADLY!!!! :D

Sorry, I have read the last few pages, but can't find a definite answer: Can you get a regular obd->serial cable and make it work with evo scan on a 99 ecu?

Evoscan works with anything 89 up, but only late 98-99 dsm ecus are (in theory) reprogramable using ecuflash.

Well, from my experience, it seems that 89-97 support is spotty at best. The older cars have veeery slow interfaces, and out of the box I couldn't connect to a lot of cars. I tried 2 VR4's and 2 Eclipses, some will log REAL slow and doesn't even allow you to read DTC's, some won't even connect.

Maybe I had my settings configured incorrectly, but I can definitely say that 98/99 ECU's are dream to work with, everything below is well... Don't know.

Concerning serial, it might work, because USB kind of translates serial signal over USB interface.

Then again from (http://www.limitless.co.nz/):
(just usb cables are supported in EvoScan v2.5 at this stage - support for serial ports will be re-introduced in a later version, as the usb version is far superior.)

Concerning re-flashing theory, as I've posted above, it seems it's not only theory anymore. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuning-engine-management/307561-new-ecuflash-1-38-2g.html

P.S. So does anyone have an idea how to add that flash plug to my car?

I cant find where to put the other end of the "Evoscan" cable. I know the 24 pin goes to the obdII but where does that white one go? I can find the mate for it anywhere. And ive checked out 4 different cars. 1 95 auto gst 3 97 eclipse 1 auto spyder 2 gsx mines(5speed) and the other auto. Dont know if that make a diff but yea

The white one is only for EcuFlash and ECU reflashing, given you have 98/99 ECU. For logging you don't need that one.

Well right now I cant even find the white plug for the ecuflash -_-....I can find it in an RS but not a 95 gst 97 spyder and two 97 gsx :(. So just for data logging, you use just the obdII sensor?
Because its 98/99 only I believe.

Oh ok ic. Anyone useing a 97 and below ecu? Do you guys only connect to the OBDII? If you do, on the evoscan, what are you settings? Do you use "OBDII" setting or "Mitsubishi" I tried them all on the tactrix cable with evoscan v2.5 and complete fail :(.... it dosnt work

Yes, you only connect via large black connector (picture in one of the posts above), and via DSM/3000/something option. Older ECU's are slow, so expect to lower data rate, put longer timeouts and log only things that are necessary. I've heard that older ECU's don't log knock sum, but only timing advances and knock sensor voltage (might be a rumor so take it with a grain of salt). Knock voltage doesn't mean much because ECU is filtering that noise to get the knock sum. So test carefully and report what you've found out, don't go trigger happy while you haven't verified that all parameters do work correctly.

I would like to hear great success stories with 95-97 ECUs and best EvoScan options for them as well.

98/99 ECU logs very slow with DSM option, Mitsubishi option is blazing fast (10+ parameters with very high sampling rate can be logged).

Concerning interoperability, I had issues as well, again, read my previous posts.

I just bought evoscan for my brothers 1997 AWD talon. With the hybrid dsm/3000GT/Eclipse setup selected, do you select EFI for "select ecu" (it looks like it selects it for you when you click the dsm/3000gt/eclipse setup option)? Or do you go to another ecu type?

I don't mind low sample rates and limited perameters to log simultaneously. . . as long as I get the basics like seeing what caused a DTC and resetting it, fuel trims and timing dips for tuning out knock. . . And then the chance that evoscan will get better for us 1997 and older cars.

AFAIK EFI is the right one, the ABS goes to ABS data (doesn't seem to play right on my setup 98/99ECU + 96 JDM ABS), and AYC or something goes for Evos, it's some sort of advanced ABS/traction as far as I understood.

I had trouble reading DTC's on some cars though, I haven't given up but the first, quick try was unsuccessful.

Thanx. Yea AYC => Active Yaw Control? LOL

I talked to Ceddy. He said to try mitsubishi or hybrid. 1996 uses hybrid. 1998 uses mitsubishi. Does anyone have any experience with the 1997 ecu?

And don't use obdII. He said to use MUT protocol. Has this already been discussed? Which one is this on the select ecu menu? Since you say EFI, is the MUT protocol also termed EFI?

Also, is it me? or has the price for 1998-1999 ecu seamed to have scyrocketed in the last 2 months?

Okay! I tried to log two 97 (second half of 97) ECU's today and both of them logged real fast via Mitsubishi/EFI option. So 97 ECUs are also fantastic as far logging is concerned! DTCs are no problems too, they can be read easily and cleared as well. I guess actuators will work as well.

Ok, I started a new thread where I will try to gather all the information about EvoScan and EcuFlash for DSMs.

I want to get all the information in one place so that we don't have to read through tens of pages just to find out what's what. If you know something that's missing, let me know I will update the thread so that it's fresh.

The thread is over: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...14-evoscan-ecuflash-tuning.html#post151634966

Do all 1997 model year car have the same ecu part number? My brother's was manufactured in August 1996. . . 1997 model year but the first half of 1997. . .
