What do you think is better the Evo VIII 16G TURBO Or the EvoIII 16g turbo? Cause I have a Evo VIII 16g turbo I am putting on a DSM. So I want to know what everyone thinks about this turbos.:dsm:
 
Well ofcourse. I knew that. But why do it when its going to cost more thena 50 trim would that could make a good amount of power more.
You knew that? :)

He got the turbo from a friend and didn't mention paying for it. . . That leaves a pretty decent budget for install. Then you have the lightning quick spool and the potential of 400 whp.
 
Do you think any evo3 turbo center could work with the 14b hot and cold side?

The 14b and evo3 16g hotsides are interchangeable. The both have the td05h turbine wheel so nothing there is different.

The compressor cover is not interchangeable with anything other than a 14b. Same goes for the s16g, b16g, evo316g, ect. Each size turbo has a different size compressor wheel and a compressor housing machined to match the wheel. A machine shop could remachine a compressor housing to match other wheels but it would still only fit other td05 center turbos.

No conventional dsm turbo has a compressor cover or turbine housing that will be interchangeable with an evo8 turbo, period. The rotation of the compressor and turbine wheels spin opposite of the dsm turbo so the convolute in the housing will not be oriented to spin the evo8 turbine wheel. I dont care how you machine it, who you know, ect, it will not work. Now, please dont ask this question again in this thread.
 
Sure great plan, it just doesnt interest me. It might if I actually had the time and money for that though.

He could get that all done for quite a bit less than a decent 50-trim setup, if he's willing to make the manifold and o2 housing. In fact, a talented and fair exhaust shop can make the exhaust components if he brings the flanges and likely he'll still have money left over vs. a decent 50-trim.

Regardless, I agree that it is probably best to sell the evo8 turbo and get an evo3 turbo the extra horspower potential is not worth the time. eclispestar, what are your goals with this car?
 
The evo 8 turbo spools quite nicely....but like everybody else has it would require too much modification to fit this turbo up to your car. It's reversed! You shouldn't have a problem selling a stock evo 8 turbo. Sell it...get an evo 3 but be in mind that a lot of evo3's have boost creep problems. But they are an awesome turbo. I had one and loved it.
 
Evo3 turbos have boost creep problems? What does this boost creep problems do? Do it #### up to engine or something like that?
 
I think I am going with a 14b ported? And what do you all think about this?:dsm:

. . . :) this is how I feel about it.

Superfast spool with a little breathing room up top. The compressor can out-flow the turbine. . . This is good for you now. The compressor map shows over 485cfm potental flow. That's neary 34 lbs/min. Or around 350 crank horsepower. When you're ready to reach that potential, you can bolt on a used 7cm^2 turbine housing from a 16g for 50-75 bones and have at it.

Most people boast that the small16g should have been the stock turbo for these cars. But the stock 14b 6cm^2 turbine housing is the real clamp. The 14b with a bigger turbine housing is a definate 300whp turbo. That's what a 14b should have come with. The lag difference is minimal.
 
Yes they do. What happens is if you set the boost at say 14lbs...it'll hit that boost level then steadily rise up to sometimes 22lbs. It's fun but dangerous at the same time. We had this problem with my little brother's Laser. He had the VRS 3 in turbo back exhaust from Slowboyracing and had the boost creep problem. Sometimes you get boost creep from too big of an exhaust but we're getting him a wideband before we put it back on the road so he can watch his A/F's and keep from running too lean. You can weld the internal wastegate flapper shut and run an external wastegate mounted on your exhaust manifold to solve the problem though.
 
I talk to someone down here at a local shop and his say I could change the exhaust housing and compressor wheel on the exhaust side and get it to work. What do you guys think about this?

What, on the evo8 turbo? AGAIN, No, it wont work. And if your local dsm shop told you that, you would be safer staying away from them. If it did work, it would be common knowledge on which compressor and turbine housings to use and a search probably would have turned up 1000 hits. Its not like the evo8 is new to the public. It has been around for a while so this would have already been done numerous times. The reason it hasnt been done is because it wont work. I am almost 100% positive that the dsm turbine housing wont even mate to the newer evo turbo.
