I recently had a my trans rebuilt with all the options po$$ible and I first used Redline Heavyweight Shockproof 50/50 mixed with Valvoline 80W-90 gear oil as per Jacks suggestion on his site. The trans still felt notchy so I drained the mix and spent $70 on the 2005 Mitsubishi EVO MR gear oil (Part number MZ313376, 4 quart container). The Evo gear oil made a huge improvement on shifting the new transmission. Much smoother going in gears and even on cold mornings, its not bad. Just thought I'd post my experience with the Evo MR gear oil. A little pricey for 4 quarts but its a great oil for our trannies!

Anyone else had a chance try the Evo MR oil?

From Jacks Site:
Q: What kind of gear oil do you recommend?
A: For our DSM and 3S transmission rebuilds we recommend factory Mitsubishi 6-speed manual transmission gear oil from the 2005 Mitsubishi EVO MR. (Part number mz313376). This is the best oil to use as it has the perfect blend of friction modifiers to keep the tranny shifting smoothly and prevent gear failure. Please make sure you use the proper amount as specified in your owners manual (typically 2.4 Qts.) Gear oil choice is very important and varies based on preloads and synchro blocker ring design, therefore it is strongly recommended that you stick with this fluid for our transmissions. If you are unable to locate Mitsubishi MR 6-speed oil from the Mitsubishi dealer, Redline Heavyweight Shockproof 50/50 mixed with Valvoline 80W-90 gear oil will also work just as well. For transfer cases and rear ends, use Redline Heavyweight Shockproof ONLY. It is especially important to use only Redline Heavyweight Shockproof fluid or Mitsubishi dealer t-case fluid in EVO transfer cases. DO NOT use Synchromesh, BG Synchroshift I or II, or Royal Purple. These fluids will destroy synchros and gears and void your warranty! THESE ARE THE ONLY FLUIDS WE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH. If you ask us "Will xyz fluid be okay?" we won't have an answer for you.

Newly rebuild transmissions usually are a bit notchy and stiff. You sure it was the oil or did it just break in?

I have heard good thing about the MR oil though and most of the rebuild shops seem to suggest it. It's a bit expensive so I stick with Redline, not Shockproof though.

Good review on the EVO MR gear oil. Did you buy the tranny oil at the dealership or online?I want to try it out when I change my clutch
I got it from my local dealership but I have a discount there. You can also order it from JNZ which sells it for $73. I think Jack can get it cheaper too.

That's what I have in my transmission at the moment, can't complain, it works well.

Where did you purchase it from?
Local dealer with a discount. Good to hear on your transmission!

As soon as I replaced the oil, it was a night and day difference after driving 10 miles.

It is nice to hear the other tranny builders suggest this stuff such as TRE.

I may be wrong on 4 quarts. Looking at a few other sites, it shows 1 gallon which is only 3 quarts. I know I still had some left over after I filled the trans.

but im ight drain it and try this instead now LOL

Should've asked Jack for some when you got your trans. He gave me the hook up on it with mine. :hellyeah:

Yeah, I've had the tranny for almost two years now. I am changing out the axles so I'm also changing out the fluid. Back when I bought the tranny nobody was talking about the MR gear oil so I'm excited to try it out. :thumb:
