Hello everyone,

cutting right to the chase, due to my rather foolish enthusiasm I bought a EVO IV 4G63T to engine swap it into my 1996 Eclipse GS (JDM Model - 4G63 Engine).
Meanwhile I do know that it won't work. Or atleast not without transforming my whole engine bay.

Now I have read the following threads kinda similiar dealing with this topic.

But my only worries are the following:
What 4G63T engines were they talkin about? If it was a EVO 1 to 3 engine, ok. I know that would work, but does that also apply to the EVO 4 and above engines?
What worries me the most is the position of the timing belt and general orientation on the EVO 4 head.
If yes, do you happen to know what to swap out and might give me some references?

Any more info that is needed I'd be more than happy to help! : )

Much appreciated
Tyron

The Evo 1-3 engine is practically the same as the 7-bolt from a 2G DSM, with minor differences. The Evo IV engine is the same design as Evo 8/9 and flipped the opposite way in the engine bay, this swap has been done before but it's a big job. If you put an Evo 4 head on a DSM 4G63, the turbocharger will be on the firewall and the intake manifold will be in front of the radiator. You could theoretically put the DSM head on the Evo IV block, but the question is what benefit you would get (the answer is practically none, since the Evo IV did not have a reliable engine). What are you trying to do, exactly?

Hey thanks for the reply Canadian_CD9A,

I already knew all that with the 1-3 and 4-9 Engines. Basically what I wanted to do was to get my GS to a GST. Turbo upgrade...
Since I bought the 4G63T from the EVO4 without a good thorough research I am now in a distress. And since I got the Turbo engine already I thought I might be able to use atleast some parts of it. Now I gotta think on what to do next. Regulations in my country forbid esential welding in the engine bay (engine mounts), so that would be a no. And when you tell me there is no way for me to actually use the 4G63T from the EVO4 I might search the internet on how to upgrade my 4G63 to a turbo engine.
I mean when you ask about what exactly I am trying to accomplish, basically I am trying to get my DSM up to 400-500 HP. I could do N/A tuning, I guess... But that would limit my abilities to do anything. I would have to give the engine to someone who actually knows how to do proper N/A tuning and got all the schematics and tools.
So I decided to go for a turbo engine, since buying one is easier than making one. And I don't have to pay someone else for doing so.
Might build the EVO4 Engine back together and just sell it then. I already knew that I'd have to cut some losses... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am trying to be optimistic and reduce damage at this point.
So if you have any experience on upgrading the DSM 4G63 or can point me in the right direction, I'd be more than thankfull.

Just sell the Evo IV engine. They are absolutely not good engines anyway and no way they would make 450hp reliably for very long, so consider this a blessing (I doubt many Evo 1-3s would either, to be honest).
Build the N/A 4G63 for boost or go with the Evo 1-3 engine, they're out there.

Yea no, that's the thing. I am going to sell EVO4 engine, but since I have disassembled it once, I can't just sell it for the price I bought it for. And as far as reliabilty goes I have heard only good things from the 4G63 and turbo adding... The thing with Evo 1-3 engines is following, in middle europe they seem to be rather rare. Initially I wanted to go for a Evo3 engine and I happened to find one. It was in bad shape and costed for that too much.
So I am up and about to find some suitable sources to build my 4G63 N/A to a turbo engine.
