Ok, so i brought my car to AMS (auto moto sports) and i am planning on getting a new turbo for my automatic GSX well the guys tells me he wants 300 to install the turbo, now i've taken a turbo in and out before is it the same thing with an upgraded turbo or should i just let them do it, i mean also anybody know how easy it is to install a AFC?? please let me know

jc :dsm:

300 dollars for a turbo install, he is off his rocker.... unless he can promise that he will not break any of ur bolts and shiz I wouldn't give him a dime... An exhuast manifold has 5 bolts, 1 under the top arms right in the middle... It's kinda a biotch to get off... This is considering that you need a new exhuast manifold...

If it is a 16g or something it is considered a bolt on... so it makes everything more easy... I say invite some friends who know some things to come over and you treat for dinner and they help you... Everyone has fun and its not that hard... You don't even need a J Pipe since it will take the place of the regular 13b location.... So i don't see how it will be hard for you, since you have taken off your stock turbo a ton of times....

An engine is held together with bolts, nuts, screws and big pieces of metal and rubber... How much simplier does it get? Well you have lubricants too

AFC isnt too hard to install but you need to change it to Karman sensors.. if you know how to do wiring its cake but i dont so its ok....

Installing a turbo isn't hard, installing an AFC isn't any tougher than installing a CD player. If you can splice wires and twist two together, you can install an AFC.

Yeah it's bolt on, it's an evo III turbo, i'm not planning on replacing the ehxuast mani yet, but how about injectors is that hard to do? i've changed alot of shit before the only reason i want them to do it is so they replace all the gaskets and rusted up bolts and stuff becuase i dont feel like buying an install kit, but 300 bucks is alot for somethin i can do...

Injectors are easier than the turbo swap. You could do it in 15 minutes if you know how to use a ratchet.
I would suggest replacing the ex manifold at the same time or you will not get the full benefit of swapping the evoIII on. The auto manny is a lot smaller than the manual and it doesnt flow near as well.
The afc is fairly easy to install also. Just follow the wiring directions and set up procedure. This should help with the setup a little. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/newafcsetting.htm

Yeah turbo swaps aren't too bad, well bolt ons anyway. Like everybody else said, you might as well replace the mani too (a used 2G turbo mani would be a huge improvement and won't crack like your 1G). And I'd say the hardest thing about the AFC install is probably AFTER you hook it up, its all just splicing wires at the ECU harness pretty much. Well good luck and if you have any questions, im sure somebody will be able to help you! So take that $300 and buy a new d-pipe or something!

Well I guess I better come in here and defend myself since I am "off my rocker." granted swapping a turbo from stock to a 16G isnt the hardest thing to do. But it does take time. The stock manifold has a stud running through to the turbo which makes it a pain in the ass to work around. take into consideration the fans the oil lines and the water lines and you are looking at a 4 hour job start to finish. That is what we charge it out for....4.5 hours. AMS is not out to rip people off. we have been servicing this type of car for over 3 years now and I highly dooubt that we would still be around if our rates and services were that out of line. Not to mention all of our work is warantied, the peace of mind alone is worth the extra couple bucks you save. If you have the ability to swap it yourself then by all means do so. we love customers that are educated. But if you are unusure or simply dont have the time you can trust us to do outstanding work and that you will get what you paid for.

his price isnt expensive, but his service isnt needed for a turbo swap. i did mine in a day, but it saved me hundreds. if you can afford 4-8 hours then do it yourself, if not, AMS charges as much as any shop around here so its not a rip off.

It is not at all a hard job to do. Paying him will not give you the satisfaction of working and completing something successfully on your car. SAFC is very easy to install. Ive installed over 10 SAFC's and AVCR's. I would never charge anyone to do this job, it is very simple.

like I said before. If you can do it yourself and well then we applaude you. AMS holds no remorse towards customers that can do their own work.
