I've found benefits on the Evo III swap but I cannot find the technical stuff. I just want to know if I should get a front clip or just the engine? ( swapping into a 2g 5spd, GSX) Will the stock 2g harness work with the Evo III? Where else can I get a front clip or engine from besides flashoptions.com All feedback will be much appreciated!

When people say EVO III they usually just mean a EVO III 16G turbo, with which you'll need an install kit and stuff. Its a very popular mod. No major swaps or anything. Good luck
Andy

No i'm talking about engine swap. I recently blew my 7 bolt and I'm looking to swap in an evo III engine.

from what I know, the evo 3 motor will drop into a 2g. I think that they have the 60mm throttle body flange with the 2g head and intake maniflod. Not completely sure though.

Hey, the evo III will bolt right into the 2nd gen. I know becuase I have done the swap already. The wiring harness will work also you just need the motor itself. I didnt use any of the Smog crap though so if you want to then you will have to do some futher mods. No EGR, EVAP, or MAP sensor was used in my swap but this can easily be done if you need to do it. The ECU will also work good. I have DSMLink in my car now with a 95 EPROM ECU but the 98 ECU was just fine too. I would def. recommend DSMLink if you do the swap becuase it makes it run a LOT better and IF you have any bugs you can work them out. At least have a DAtalogger though. If you have any Q's let me know I think I experienced every problem possible when doing the swap and I might be able to help you out through the process. :dsm:

Thanks for the post. One last question though where did you get your engine and what did you pay? I have found a few places but they seem kinda expensive.

Nm I read the other thread that you posted in. By any chance do you have the name of that shop?

The head is the same as a 2G but the manifold has 3" shorter runners and a 60mm plenum. It also has no provisions for an EGR or emissions hoses so take that into account before you begin.

The name of the shop is Japanese Used Engine Land and its located in Stanton, CA in the Anaheim area. The guy isnt very knowledeable so you might want to ask him some ?'s about the motor before you buy it. Just to make sure its an evo motor. When I called him i asked for a 95-99 eclipse/talon motor and he said " Yeah I got one right here". It ended up being an evo motor and he didnt even know. The motor was however very clean and i think i could of even negotiated the price a little more. Let me know if you need any more info. :dsm:

i dont see the benifits of swapping the whole block, imho the only improvements can be the crank, rods, pistons, head, and such, and the crank is a 7 bolt, and ive heard it is in no way an improvement over a 6 bolt. if i were the one doing it, i would probably get a 6bolt conversion with a evoIII turbo, exaust mani, head, maybe rods if they are better, pistons, but i believe the 1g intake mani is better than the evoIII mani, but they might need to be port matched, who knows....most important stuff is mani turbo and pistons imo...6bolt is the way to go from what ive heard...

this post is basically how the evo3 swap threads usually end. And alot have ended in the past.

the major benifit is the head. its a better flow design. the evo ecu uses lower timming curves because of it. the cams are hollow, and rotate diffrently so they cant be used in our dsm heads. the block is basicly a strong 7bolt 1g block. the mafs is 50/lb min flow rate. there are posts on dsmlink about some of this stuff. 98evoIIIpwr, im dissipointed in you for bringing up dsmlink for the evo. shhhh...

it is a dirrect swap, and from what i have heard the 1g intake has slightly better flow rates then the evos. i've looked, asked, written emails and searched for some information on the swap. you can do it, but for me the cons out way the pros, parts are still expensive, and not easy to come by.

The head is the exact same as a 2G head. Cams *may* be different but they still rotate the same way. How the hell can the whole motor be swapped in but the motor spin opposite? The Evo3 intake manifold has a 60mm plenum like the 1G mani but has 3 inch shorter runners for increased topend. I know because I have one, I just installed it onto my bastard motor. :thumb:
