The shop that has my car called me today to give me the options of engines that they found.

They can either rebuild the 2.3L stroker kit that is in my 4G63

or they have a Evo III engine

Both of these would cost me about the same price, since I know nothing about the Evo III engine I was wondering what everyone thought about the swap?

It will be in a 1995 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD

Has anyone had any issues with this swap, and if so what kind of issues?

Its pretty much the same motor that comes in all turbo DSMs, just the cams, TB, exhaust manifold and turbo are different.

Why not rebuild the 2.3 ? I mean it's already stroked, you'll have more bottom end compared to the evo3 in the end, even better if you ever decide to go bigger turbo.

i have an evo3 engine and love it, but even i'd say go for the 2.3 - it'll be worth it when you add all the upgrades

That's not where it ends. If it is a true Evo3 engine, the intake manifold is going to be different and better then a USDM 7-bolt one, and internally it is different. Again, if it is a true Evo3 engine, it will have a 9.0:1 compression ratio which is higher then both a standard 6-bolt and 7-bolt. Externally, it will also have a 7-bolt style air cooled oil filter. Much like the '90 oil filter housing.

The real question is, what do you want to do with your car?

I own an Evo 3 - go the 2.3

Internals (rods + pistons) on the III are NOT up to scratch.

Another vote for 2.3. You already have it, might as well just rebuild it.

well, I guess that answers my question then doesn't it. The only issue I have with the rebuild is the fact that I think it might have messed up the block...

Another thing I can do is get the Evo III engine, have them swap it into the car so I can drive it, while I rebuild the 2.3 this would also give me a reliable back up engine

sounds like a lot of extra work - if you need something to drive while you're rebuilding, you could probably just use that money to buy a beater car or even a nice motorcycle to use in the meantime
