Im looking into getting a evo III o2 housing, but see that you have to tweak the downpipe a little? I have a Megan Racing3 inch downpipe and im pretty sure it's the same as the stock downpipe. Im reading it needs modifications to fit. Can anybody confirm this? If so, what exactly do you need to do to get it to fit?
From dsmparts.com ( http://www.dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=88&cat=&page= )

"TECH TIP: Almost a direct bolt-on for all turbo Eclipse/Talon cars. (The outlet of the housing is at a slight angle. SOME down-pipes may need some minor modifications. "

Much larger than the stock 1st or 2nd gen O2 housings, the EVO offers a greater capacity to flow exhaust gases out of the turbine. We can port it for even more flow! Due to minor differences between the EVO and the stock housing, it must be used with an aftermarket downpipe that has slotted holes.

That's from Forced Performance, I have the same downpipe, and looking to get the same o2. Its hard to explain, but I think the holes must be "longer" than just room for one bolt.

(__) vrs (_) longer(slotted) vrs single bolt. Put a line on top of those pictures. You see what I mean, a dremel should be able to do this. Hope this helps

o really because im pretty sure the megan racing downpipe has slotted holes too (I think??).

i heard that it has more to do of the angle of the downpipe though. that it has to be twisted a little or bent or something. to mate up with the housing

I have the MR 3" DP also...they look slotted to me...

I was leaning towards the EVO III myself, but decided to go with a tubular one from 122 Performance...now if Andy would just get back to me...:|

I have a Megan Racing downpipe, and it is huge.
Put that thing up to a stk ported 2g O2 Housing, and the DP almost eats O2 Housing it's so damn big.
I called SBR and ordered a SBR Ported Evo III O2 Housing, and let me tell you, this piece is huge.

I spoke with somebody there at SBR, and they said that the flange on the DP has to be clocked 15* in order for one not to damage the flex section of the DP.

I would definitely upgrade to the Evo III O2 Housing is you are running the MR DP.

I can take some pics this weekend and I'll post them in this thread of the stk unported O2 Housing vs. the ported Evo III O2 Housing.

I'll also try and validate the need for DP modification and try and give you guys some incite.

Yes, you are going to need to adjust your Megan DP to connect it to the EVO O2 housing. I have never had the Megan DP, but I know with the EVO O2 housing you will run into alignment issues as well as problems bolting the O2 housing and downpipe together due to the EVO O2's larger bolt pattern.

Road Race Engineering has a downpipe that is designed to connect with the EVO O2 housing. To my knowledge, RRE is the only company that offers a downpipe specifically designed for EVO O2 housing applications.

I found these pictures on RRE's site.
With both O2 Housings lying flat on the turbine housing flange, you can see that there are some differences in the flange angle, and the clocking of the studs on the O2 Housings.
The last pic shows the size difference of the inlet.
I'll get a pic of the ported Evo housing vs. a stock housing, and then you'll see how much larger the Evo Housing is.
I have an email into RRE right now, asking about how to dial this in, so hopefully they will get back to me soon.

If not, I have a fix, and I may do a write up on it myself if all goes well.

You take off your DP, and cut off the flange as close to the flange as
possible.

Install the O2 housing and bolt the new flange we give you to the O2
housing.

Put the DP up and trim the angle of the pipe if necessary.

Tack weld the DP to the flange.

Take it off and fully weld it.

Bolt it back on.

That makes perfect sense... I just gotta make more friends with welders...:thumb:

I actually work with a guy that is a part time machine shop instructor at a JC near me.
He is going to take my DP in after I modify it and TIG weld that sumbiotch.
I'll post pics in this thread when it's done.
