Hey guys. I’m trying to figure out what exhaust system I should be purchasing. I did do a lot of searching prior to making this post. My question is, with and EVO III 02 housing, can I go with the megan downpipe? I know they are both 2.5”, but do the studs match up? I know the studs are a different distance from stock o2 to evo III o2, so I’m concerned because the downpipe can obviously only fit one, and it doesn’t address which, unless I can assume that the 2.5” means the studs match up too. I don’t want to be tapping out or widening bolt holes or anything. Can someone with a EVO III and housing tell me which dp’s will bolt up no problem? Thanks in advance for any feedback/advice. Any input on the rest of the exhaust would also be gratefully appreciated. I hear good stuff about rnr, but can’t find there link.

It should bolt up fine, the only difference in the o2 housing is the angle the outlet is at, its off by a couple of degrees. It's so small though that it shouldn't make a difference. I have the E3 housing and VRS 3 inch, it just comes really close to my transfer case. There is less than a 1/2 inch of space between them so I wedged some heat insulator between them. 2.5" should be fine.

Thanks for the replys guys! But this is where I'm confused. Thekellbeast says "I have a Megan Racing downpipe and I wish I had known it was the Evo O2 profile before I tried installing it. I would have bought a different O2 housing (I have the SSautochrome dumped). It was a total bi*** to bolt up, and is tweaked a bit." Does this mean the megan downpipe was made for my EVO III housing? And means that is not compatable with stock o2?
Here are some pictures i took to show the stockk 02 and Evo 02. The studs are clearly spaced different. I took these pictures when the stock dp didn't bolt up to the housing like the seller told me it would.

On my awd 1g , my evo3 o2 housing caused my 3in mandrel downpipe to touch the transfer case and it causes a rough vibration noise, so i used a crow bar and pryed it off the transfer case just enough were i could stuff some left over header wrap I had in between the tc and the dp and it quieted the vibration noises a little but not completely... I also have the evo3 manifold.. Has anyone else had this problem with it actually touching.? Maybe it could be the downpipes design?...

Well, I know I can't help cause I never worked on a 1g. As I'm doing this, I'm becoming more frustrated the more i search and read. I see that the megan dp actually eliminates the cat? I don't think I could work with that since it's my DD and still will have to pass emmisions (PA). Can anyone tell me what full system worked for them in the end with a 16g? I'm going through the ebay exhaust thread and picking up a lot of info. Thanks again guys!

Thekellbeast is saying he wishes he knew the evo o2 housing was a direct bolt on with a megan downpipe. He bought the ssautochrome and has to mod it to even fit.

Looks like it will line right up :thumb:

Megan racing dp was made to bolt on to the stock o2 housing or to an aftermarket housing with the exact same angle and length of the stock housing. SSautochrome housings are not at the right angle like a stock one. So they will not fit. Unless you do some modification to it. Nor will it fit properly and evo housing. Again, unless in this case, the 3inch down pipe is modified. I don't know about other dp's or the stock one but this is the case on the megan 3inch on a 1g. :talon:

okay, so it will work then? What dp's will work with a cat and my housing? Or is megan the only one that will work? Sorry that I have so many questions, but it's really hard for me to find straight answers from searching. Thanks again!

Yes, an evo 3 o2 housing and a megan downpipe will work.

A cat-back would probably work best if you kept the same manufacture parts together. EX: megan downpipe and megan cat-back.

You can mix parts thought. My friend took his megan downpipe and we made a custom flang on the end of the downpipe so it would bolt up to the apexi N1 cat-back.

If you read this post, multiple people have megan racing downpipes and they bolt right up. They also talk about other downpipes.

That was the link I was going to give. Thanks for saving me a few seconds. :) As far as I know, RRE is the only company that specifically states their "Evo Style" DPs strictly accommodate for the angle difference.

Or you could go with the Dejon dumper and buy both in one clean piece. I love mine, and it has lasted quite well. $300 and its 3"!

haha i knew right where it was because i read it about 2 minutes before i found this post :p

also i hear that megan dp are good quality and many of my friends run them on cars from dsms to nissan 240sx.

here are some ideas that i would do since the evo3 o2 housing has a different angle than the the stock or aftermarket o2 design like the stock..

1)i would bolt everything up together get one of those portable torch and heat up the DP maybe about 2inches down where the DP and o2 housing connects, once its hot enough be ready to pry it with something.

2) bolt everything up and bring it to a muffler shop and have them heat it up with a torch and pry it

To follow up on this thread... (and thanks so much for your help guys!)

here's the catback I ended up getting...

here is the cat I'll be putting in...

And I'm still deciding on the downpipe. I was going to go with RRE because they have a cat that bolts right up, but it was just too expensive, so my friend who has a shop and can weld will be helping me with everything. I wanted it to be a "true" 3", so that was going to take some cutting and welding anyways. I'll probably post up a sound clip or video when it's all said and done. And btw, if anyone wants to buy one of those cats, they let you make an offer on them. It was buyitnow for 62.02, so I made a 52.02 offer and they approved it within 10 minutes, so right now, it's a seemingly great buy. Thanks again!

Yea, thanks GVR4592. I've allready been looking through their stuff. I think it's great how they make everything bolt up too, but I thought they were a little expensive. I probably will end up buying that downpipe, and I'm leaning towards buying the long one since I will be cutting off the flange anyways, and then I'll have about an extra foot of 3" pipe, which I will probably need. Good idea? Bad idea?

Sounds good, I've had my RRE downpipe for about 3 years now with no issues. Just make sure your motor mounts are in good shape or you could break the flex section, which is true of any downpipe.

I can also vouch for the RRE short downpipe (evo III flange). It retains the cat, or you could also purchase a high flow cat from them as well.

Yea, I was gonna do that, but if u look up a couple posts, I found a magnaflow muffler shipped for under 60, so I'll deal with the cutting and welding to save that kind of money. Thanks for the vouch, and I think I'm going with the long dp since I'll be cutting the flange off anyways, and then I can have extra 3" pipe which I'd probably have to purchase anyways. It's not an more expesive either, so hopefully all profit unless I'll be paying for that much bigger of a box on shipment. Doubt it though. Thanks for your input man.
