Hey all,

I've been looking at upgrading my MAS, but I don't want to go to the GM MAF/MAFt route. I thought about a 2g mas, but I've heard they hit their limit at ~400-450 hp (((I'm not there yet, but I'd like some headroom))). I've heard that the evo MASflows considerably more. I've also heard that it is shared with ALOT of the newer mitsu cars (((one of the eclipses, montereo, and a couple of others))). So after beating around the bush, onto the questions

1) what vehicles is this MAS located in other than the evo, because I'm REALLY going to find a wrecked evo in nowhere oklahoma.

2) what do I need to do to get it to function correctly in a 1g?

3) what kind of work is needed to install it?

I did a bit of searching, and found almost nothing (((anything I found I regurgitated at the top))). I'm sure that there might be others interested in this, so a good posting is necessary.

Thanks,

Greg Heineken :talon:

I've read several places (((doesn't make it true, but it's happened often enough to make me wonder))) that it doesn't tune well at full throttle with other tuning devices, not to mention it costs about $300+ for the whole setup, where as a maf sensor and plug should cost in the neighborhood $of 50-100, and should work well. I'm also not all that interested in venting my blow off valve, so no need for a blow through setup.

my maft tunes really well at wot,is a lot less of a restriction, and adds a few hp.you could use in a pull-through setup also.i can easily chirp third now,and im driving an n/t.

Reguardless of my reasoning, I am not wanting to go with a MAFt at this point. I'd like to find more info on the 3g/evo MAF sensor. I think it would benefit the community as a whole to have this option open to us, as it probably wouldn't be hard to find this sensor in a salvage yard (((I do realize that the GM sensors are easily foound in a yard, but they still require the MAFt to work))). I found another post on dsmtalk that mentioned that the evo sensor is similar in design to the 2g, but it has a 3" outlet, which is perfect for

2g MAS supports 50lb/min. Thats alot! The EVO MAS supports around 62. It's not a dirrect swap. Their is some rewireing needed. If you did get a new EVO MAS for around $340, rewired it, you would need to ajust airflow #'s -24/-27%. It roughly has that much more compassity. Their are a few guys that have done the swap on DSMlinks fourms. If you have access to the forum you can check it out their.

I have no idea what vehicals have it..

Thanks for the info. So it won't just drop in on a 1g other than rewiring?

maybe the maft is the best choice for you... considering these options

2g MAF ($50) + S-AFC ($200) + 550cc Injectors ($200) = $450
Evo MAF ($350) + S-AFC ($200) + 550cc Injectors ($200) = $750
MAFT ($200) + MAF ($50) = $250

Best Option?

MAFT ($200) + MAF ($50) + S-AFC ($200) = $450

That would give you the greatest tunability.

The 2g MAF is a bi*** to tune, you will need bigger injectors and an s-afc. The Evo MAF is even bigger, so that just adds to it.

Im looking to source out my 2g maf system now, and get a lil more flexability with my setup.

My sarcasm detector is going through the roof. Sorry, must've read it fast/wrong. Good luck with that, though :thumb:
