Evergreen performance kits?

Hi,

I was searching the same kit on amazon the other day when I was purchasing my timing components for my laser and didn't buy it only because I couldn't find information on it.

If it's the same one I almost got, it had the GMB water pump and from my experience that is an OEM water pump, so maybe whoever put these kits together would like to keep the same quality parts together??

I will be doing more research and will check back for I am still interested in those kits. I ended up with buy the GMB pump seperate, gates timing kit, and felpro permatorque and timing tensioner.

Good luck, god bless,

Anthony B.

I've been debating buying one of these kits also!?! Its such a hard decision they have some really nice kits and I like that it has all the pieces you need to do a complete job! It says all the stuff is from Japan and have pretty good details abut everything. Wish there was more feedback about them LOL!

There is something else to consider. 4g63 oil pan does not use a gasket, it is designed for RTV.
The kit coming with a gasket may show they don't know what they are doing?

Almost all cars come from factory with rtv and almost all have a aftermarket oil pan gasket available. A good rubber gasket or composite layered with rtv will last longer than just rtv.

I have their full gasket kit with MLS now, will be getting used sometime this month and I can report back.

One thing I notice is the mls is not like ones I have seen before, it is a thin steel layer thing a thick steel plate then another thin layer. I usually see 4 layers of just thin steel.

Definitely designed to be thicker than stock which is good for milled heads.

Regarding the oil pan gasket, even Felpro kits come with one for some reason, just dont use it. Also, in the Evergreen kit, the valve cover gaskets dont seem to hold up for long, and I wouldnt use their headgaskets either, but everything else is quite nice. The rubber that their valve cover gaskets tends to harden in relatively short order, and the headgaskets are clearly poorly made, so just substitute Felpro for these two items and youre good to go. Regarding the timing belt itself, I have used a variety of different brands over the years, from Napa to the current, off the parts store shelf Gates thats on my car now, and Ive never had any issues with them.

I bought the full evergreen rebuild kit ..... For my Geo Metro and it came with all the parts I needed to put the entire motor back together other than 1 gasket for the distributor. The metros about 50k miles on the motor I rebuilt in my garage and still running strong. The quality of the gaskets are good but of course there are other gaskets that seem a tad more durable. I know its not for eclipses but hey theres my .02 cents in regards towards the company and product. It was worth the price for what I got , but yet again I was building a 3 cylinder Egg that puts down about 50hp to the wheels not a turbo charged motor.

I would only be getting and using the water pump and timing components. I have a blue gates racing timing belt im going to use. Also in the evergreen timing kits the pulleys are orange and the ones im getting are green like the gates kit. Im buying it brand new off of somebody on craigslist. The kit kind of looks like this exept the pullys are green and look better made.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007P72FHC?pc_redir=1395550993&robot_redir=1

I just bought a full gasket set, water pump w/ timing kit, oil pump from them, seem like a good company, I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. Once I get my block back this week it'll be all put on and I'll report back, to let you know.

There are 2 things wrong with this statement. There are far more engines out there that use a gasket from the factory than rtv. Second, If the pan is designed for rtv than it will seal better with rtv. There is a little bit of engineering built into this. A pan that is made for a gasket will have a raised area in the middle of the sealing surface to dig into the gasket and hold it in place. If the pan is meant for rtv than there will be a groove instead, this is made so that the rtv will stay in place. If you correctly clean both surfaces, use the right rtv than torque the bolts immediately and let it sit overnight before putting oil in it, than it will seal every time, and it will never leak for the life of the engine. Yes that is right, you torque the bolts when the rtv is still wet. You DO NOT want to let it skin over, it will not seal correctly. You just want it to fill the gaps. You will need a paint scraper and a hammer to remove the oil pan. Using a gasket on these engines is just plain an awful idea, they will always end up leaking. The reason why is because you can't properly torque the pan bolts with a gasket. Before you reach the proper torque the gasket will squish out. But if you don't torque them correctly than they will back out and them your seal is gone.

As for these kits, i use their pistons, rings, bearings and some gaskets. I have found that their composite head gaskets are decent, but every engine that i have installed their mls they have leaked coolant. The coating on the gasket is poor quality. I literally had 2 in a row that wouldn't seal on a honda b18, than the felpro sealed right up no problem. The rubber valve cover gaskets are kind of cheap also. I am not sure that i would use the oil pump, water pump or any of the timing components though.

GMB is an oem supplier, you will be fine with that kit.

What I said has been my experience on dozens of oil pans from many different makes. I understand what your saying about the groove or ridge, but brands like felpro have designed their gaskets to work with the pan regardless. I have noticed a lot of newer cars springing leaks at only 100k miles with just rtv. Will the gasket hold longer? Well I guess only time will tell, so far no one has come back saying any leaking. Those rubber gaskets do not get rtv however, only a dap in the corners. Otherwise how you described is how I've always done it.

I will take your advice on the dsm though and not use the oil pan gasket, the one that came is just a crappy paper one anyway.

What you just said about their MLS head gasket concerns me...
BUT what the head AND THE BLOCK mirror shiny flat? They must be for mls

This one?

As I have said, I have personally used Evergreen kits( Even the oil and water pumps and timing components without issues) , and as I have said, do not use the head gasket or valve cover gaskets. However, I have had a Felpro and an "Evergreen" composite headgasket in my hands to compare design and quality and have never had an opportunity to compare the MLS gaskets, as until now I didnt even know an MLS was offered by Evergreen. That said, Bryanwheat has already stated that hes had immediate troubles with them. If your block and head surfacse have the proper surface finishes, go ahead and try it out and get back to us after a few heat cycles and compression tests, maybe itll work fine?

Regarding the rtv developing leaks, in theory, if done properly, it should not ever leak, however, at 100k miles, you have to consider what may be the cause of the rtv leaking, which could very easily be excessive crank case pressures caused by clogged, failing pcv systems and worn rings allowing excessive blowby into the crank case, but 100k really is a pretty good lifespan, wouldnt you say?

Just got went and picked up the kit. It came with 3 pulleys, water pump, cam seals and belts. Everything exept the belts look to be oem quality they all came in GMB marked boxes.
