Well this will be my first post :) but it should help out someone with my experiences. I searched like I usually do, but this time, I can't find something in particular. I did find everything on the SAFC though.

Quick rundown:

Car is a 97 GSX (harness has not been swapped for 96)
ECU is from a 96 GST
Engine is from 90 GSX
CAS is a 91-92 (plug on sensor body)

+1 I have the piggyback ECUplus silverbox and it's a PLUG N PLAY

CONDITION: Car in garage, engine/trans completely out. I have not modified the wiring and neither has the previous owner. Therefore, car has been running this way.

QUESTION 1: I found the ECU was actually a '96 GST (MD321912) instead of a '97 GSX, I checked tuners to see pros & cons of 97/96. From what I see, not really anything. But I also seen that the 95-96 ECU is NOT a direct swap, and you must first invert the cam signal (through some form of engine management) OR swap the plug wires around, correct? If that is the case, then the piggyback can manage that like DSMlink does with the invert CAS setting and not have to mess with plug wires.

2G ECU PINOUT:

So I was checking the ECU wiring (because it's a DSM) and found some things. I compared the harness wires to the DSMLINK 2G ECU pinout and I am missing two wires, pins 43 and 46. I'm not worried about that. I believe at one point that this car had a 'SAFC' because of these wires that were molested:

CONNECTOR B-55
pin 58 white- engine ignition signal/ this was TAPPED into at one time and now just has an extra GREEN wire hanging off.
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/fe14b655.jpg" width=40%>

CONNECTOR B-56
pin 84 brown/red- throttle position sensor/ this was TAPPED into at one time and now just has an extra GREY wire hanging off.
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/16f15ea9.jpg" width=40%>

pin 90 blue/yellow- volume air flow/ was CUT at one time but was twisted back together.
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/0e5b871d.jpg" width=40%>
^Not pictured is 12 & 13 power and ground. They were tapped into as well.

In this pic, these are the 3 WHITE wires in CONNECTOR B-56. Left to right- o2 rear, o2 front and knock sensor. EACH oxygen sensor has its OWN thick GREEN cable that consists of a white wire and a set of bare strands surrounding the white wire. Almost like the red/yellow/white cables on televisions. These strands meet and are crimped together with pin 92 (black wire, bottom of pic) along with several other grounds coming from harness.
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/16a1cd67.jpg" width=40%>

This picture shows the KNOCK sensor also has its OWN cable with bare strands surrounding a white wire. This WHITE wire has been tapped the same way the SAFC wires were for some reason hence the PURPLE wire.
*The way the grey tape is in picture is how I found it. o2 sensor wires were the same way.
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/4747ac92.jpg" width=40%>

I cannot seem to find if this is a factory thing or something else and I'm concerned about the 3 white wires. I haven't found a reason for someone to tap the knock sensor (SAFC??) and mess with the other 2 wires but I'm still weary of why it looks like christmas time in the dash with the 3 thick green extension cords?

Any help is much appreciated guys :D

Im going to check things out a little more tonight. Im going to trace the wires for the 02 sensors and see if anything is fishy.

Can someone tell if those thick green cables are stock?

Thanks for checking that out.

Yeah I went out tonight, got a couple more pics, and fixed all the tapped and cut wires with a little heat shrink. After tracing them down more, they looked to be okay, so I let them be.

When I was moving things around tonight, I noticed where the green cable reappears again at:
<img src="http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx320/nherron1991/DSMtuners/74c0249e.jpg" width=50%>

Then it goes under carpet and then through a hole in the floor for rear o2 sensor:

I also have not yet found evidence to show that anything was modified to fit the 96 ECU. The only adjustment was in the ECU+ SOFTWARE which takes my 1990-1994 CAS signal and converts to the what the 1996 ECU wants. This sounds okay right?

So I was checking the ECU wiring (because it's a DSM) and found some things. I compared the harness wires to the DSMLINK 2G ECU pinout and I am missing two wires, pins 43 and 46. I'm not worried about that.

Unless the car is an automatic I wouldn't expect to see 43 or 46. The are used for the TCU to talk to the ECU when shifting.

From what wires are touched it might have had a SAFC installed in the past.

The purple wire would imply it was a SAFC2, the only model that used the knock sensor but was worthless.

Thanks for the information

Well then, that all explains why I had velcro on the center console. Anyway, I got everything confirmed and working okay. Thanks again for the info

To anyone who runs DSMlink on a 95/96 gst/gsx ECU with a green top 1G CAS: What do you have to do to make everything work together correctly? I know there is the invert CAS setting, but is that it?

I'll be leaving things the way I found which is:

ECU+ controller is set for 1990-1994 CAS in and 96 CAS out.

CAS is wired up like this in this link by RRE MINUS the whole circuit thing.

RRE Instructions

At the bottom it says I don't need to change anything else for the ECU to be happy and proper injector firing should be achieved.

So does the ECU+ controller (or DSMlink) take care of the cam signal inversion? It just seems not alot of people like to deal with 95/96 ECU's COMPARED to the others years? I might just get a 97-99 ECU next summer just to be 100%

ECUplus users:

Found out that for the ECU+ (not DSMLINK), you do not have to swap spark plug wires around if you have a 95/96 ecu WITH the 1G or 97-99 CAS. Just make sure to select the CAS inversion, because the 95-96 ecu expects a different signal than the signal of a 1G or 97-99 CAS'. Of course if you're using a 1G CAS, you still need to wire that into the 97 engine harness. You would wire it this way: RRE Instructions

DSMlink users:

Same thing but you must also swap the spark plug wires around. swapplugwires [ECMTuning - wiki]

Anybody that has questions about the ECUplus can PM me, I've been tracing down some good info on the unit for a while now. I know there's not as much info as the DSMlink. Only reason why I would switch to link.
...ok and speed density :p
