Hello, about a year ago i was driving my 93 eclipse (1.8) when the AC belt tensioner came loose and started slapping the hood. I pulled over and luckly i had my wrench set and a buddy to help tighten it back up... well my friend was using a crow bar to help get the tensioner tight and it slipped and snapped off one of the plug wire adaptors on the distributor

I towed the car back home and replaced the distributor, only to have the engine running like a lawn mower from the 1930's! I have spent way to many hours trying to set the distributor timing. So i put the car aside and picked up a 91 Tsi as a project car, Well im finaly finished with the Tsi and now its back to the eclipse.

Im damn near ready to pull the engine out and replace it with a JDM engine on ebay. But before i do that i wanted to give it one last shot. I have replaced it with 2 distributors, a new ECU, And all new plugs.

Here are pictures of the cam timing and the crank timing

My last guess is it could be a O2 sensor...

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

May i also add i had my uncle take a look and he grounded one of the plugs near the battery i forget the name of it but it put the car back into "basic timing" and it ran rather normal. I had to keep my foot on the gas lightly to keep the idle but it was not popping and misfiring

If you have had issues with the distributer my opinion it wouldnt be anything to do with the o2 sensor. Also, if the you feel that the wires on the ditributer were in fact an issue i would check anything dealing with that issue. Crank sensors, cam sensors, ecu, plugs, wires, shorts in the wiring ext. Buying another engine from another source may not fix the issue and in turn you waisted some cash. You may put it in and have the same problem.

the cap should have the plug wire number on it.
Rotor turns clockwise.

Wire positions on the cap with No. 1 at TDC:

No.1 at the 6:00 position
No.3 at the 9:00 positon
No.4 at the 12:00 position
No.2 at the 3:00 position

Interestingly enough, each wire has its own length to where you oughta know where they should go since the short ones can't reach Nos 3 or 4 spark plug.

Cam mark and pulley look good - right on at TDC ... 1.8's are easy to work on .... - DSM
