damnthing erased all I had typed. ok in a nutshell here's what I typed before the computer erased it all. 99 fwd manual eclipse gs. have soon to have about $1000.00(one thousand) a week to spend on it but want to do homework first. new to this and have some questions

looking for performance and handleing. not to be the best but to be up there. car will be one of 2 or 3 daily drivers. questions are
  1. What engine to get.
    1. I have heard about the mivec system but have not heard much about it being worth it
    2. it seems the 4G63 is the best way to go. I'm looking to turbo as it seems the best way for power. any opinions?
    3. turbos for DSM "should" vent into the engine, but is this the same as a continuosly spooling turbo? I've heard that it gives a constant boost which gives more power? any validity in the statement
    4. 6g74 won't fit in the engine bay will it? even if it would is there any extra power to be had and is it worth it?
    5. I guess I should ask about transmissions too. 6 speed is preferable just because I like the sound of it but isn't required. any opinions? I've heard short throw is nice
  2. what suspension/drivetrain etc.
    1. awd for handling? yes no maybe I have a front wheel drive would it be worth my time?
    2. any other general info here would be helpful

well that seems to be about the scope of my current questions. if you do have any suggestions I'd be really greatful. thanks a lot dsm'ers

yeah that would be the easy way to go but I've been told that I'd want to add forged internals and all that other stuff and even if I don't REALLY need it, it'll be the little things in life that make me happy. also I'm kinda partial to mine and it'd be nice to say I did the work or that I had the knowledge to know I wasn't able to do the job but had the job done wisely. also anyone know of an A/C cluster that mounts on the left side of the driver?

If you want a turboed car sell the gs and get a gst\gsx. If you turbo the gs you will have a car that can barely hang with stock 4g63t's. Also you will have your car in the garage for quite some time not being able to drive it because you are having a turbo kit fitted. Same goes for dropping in a 4g63t, it will be a pain and will end up costing the same or more than just selling the gs and getting a stockt turboed car. A gsx\gst with stock internals can handle a good amount of hp, prob. more than you will run..

Doing more performance wise to the gs except exhaust\intake\maybe n2o is a waste imo.

be that as it may I'm still intrested in working on my eclipse that I already own versus having to buy another one. I wouldn't mind the work so much as I enjoy that kind of work so still any suggestions would be great

AWD conversion will be a huge job and swapping in the 4G63T will be a major pain in the butt. You would be way farther ahead to just buy a different car.
