Hello,

i plan on doing a mini engine build, never done a piston engine before so my main question would be if i need to take the motor out or can/should i do it with the engine in the car??

I plan on going with this kit + a metal headgasket and some ARP studs Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0 Turbo Engine Rebuild Kit | eBay

The plan is to just build a 6 bolt stocker :tease:

You should pull it out i never rebuilt it with it in the bay a lot harder, everything looks ok but i wouldnt trust the oil pump i would get oem. mizzumo sells npr pistons which are stock replacement parts for mitsubishi.

Thanks for the feedback.. so you think the npr pistons is a much better choice than what comes with the kit?

NPR pistons, no matter what they tell you, are NOT as good as OEM ones. I've personally seen 3 sets of NPR pistons/rings fail. This was a few years back (2004ish) though, so they may have fixed whatever casting or alloy issue they were having. I personally wouldn't use them.

Ive used them in previous builds never an issue with them, 7 years in engine before worked just great, and i dont baby my car. You'll hear various responses ive heard good things about them and used them but it may vary from user to user.

Well i've personally installed 20+ sets of them without a single failure. If you assemble everything correctly than you won't have any problems.

I also have NPR pistons in my stock rebuild. About 7,000 miles on them and not a single problem. I'd recommend them.

I have a similar question. I want to just do a stock rebuild. I have a '95 TSi and the motor I am putting in is from a '98 Eclipse GS-T. The motor had a knock when I picked up the car. I would like to do a complete engine rebuild but I need to have cheap but quality parts as this will be my dd when it is finished. I also have 2 blown stock T25 turbos and was wondering if it would be worth rebuilding or finding another turbo? I have not started to tear down the motor and I was going to start my own post but I didn't want to post a repeat. Any help for either of us would be great.

Cheap and reliable always is the 2g pistons and 1g rods.I personally thing dsm's like oem or good aftermarket like eagle rode or wisaco pistons. But yea oem rebuilds can handle some 400hp if maintaned right.95TalonTSi038 ditch the T25 and get a 14b atleast.

I'm looking into doing the same thing very soon aswell with a stock 6 bolt I have no clue of the condition of the motor when it was running. I was thinking of going a few different routes but something along the lines of this.

-T Belt kit/Balance shaft removal
-OEM oil pump/waterpump
-Oem Bearings/seals
-MLS headgasket/ARP headstuds
-BC 272's/Springs/Retainers
-All new Gaskets
-OEM Crank Pulley

Possibly 2g pistons on 1g rods if the crank is still good.

Or if I need a new crank going all out with eagle crank, rods, and maybe ross pistions or something similar.

My Question is, how can I tell if my crank is still good? Do I measure the clearences in between the bearings and crank? Or do I have to bring it to a machine shop? Thanks for any help or suggestions, I agree with the 14b comment much better off picking up a used one of those than toying with the t-25.
