I want to rebuild my engine and I need to get some advice. I was thinking about buying the topline rebuild kit that goes for $499.

Some people said the kit it quality, others say its got junk bearings, pistons and other things.

Someone else told me I should get a JDM mitsubishi rebuild kit as they are mitsubishi spec and dirt cheap. I was told to call a jdm engine dealer who could mostlikely get one.

What are peoples thoughts on the route to go?

I sorts like the idea of using mitsubishi parts but if I go threw the local dealer, its a small fortune.

Thank you.

You get what you pay for. You cant compare a top line to a ross or a wiesco piston. Top line pistons are fine but I would get moly rings and clevite bearings. Also your machineists work also dictates on how long the engine will last and perform. Do some reasurch on all your clearances for your aplication (boost level, rpm level)

OEM or better

Think about it this way. You spend a little more money now so you won't have to be doing this crap again a couple months down the road. Do it right and do it once.

Well from what I'm learning its not just a little more money. Its like 5x more.

JUST the lower gasket kit and mitsubishi bearings are over 700 dollars from my dealer.

What I want is a JDM engine rebuild kit. I'm told they are found in japan easy and cheap and made by mitsubishi.

Ahh might very well be so. If I were you I could check out Clevite bearings. They tend to be the bearings most of the builders use.

Yes I know what they are but from what I hear factory Mitsubishi bearings are the way most people go.

Ok I decided to use mostly factory Mitsubishi parts.

Here is a list of the items I'm ordering. Can anyone think of anything I'm missing?

Main Bearing Set
Rod Bearing Set
Complete Gasket Set
Front Cover
Oil Pump Drive Gear
Oil Pump Driven Gear
Pistons
Rings
All timing belt parts.

Go to a different dealership, $700 for just the lower gasket set?? I can get a full gasket set from the local dealership for $225.

It wasnt $700 for just the gasket set. It was only $375.

Altho I ended up finding a dealer who sells factory Mitsubishi parts who said he would do $175 on the complete gasket set.'

I still need to know if the list of parts I posted is everything.
