Hey guys I'm buying a non running 91 gsx in a few days for 400 bucks as a project..and I plan on rebuilding the engine..I have never rebuilt a car engine before..just lawnmowers and bikes and quads..but I have my dad and his buddy that's a mechanic if I get into deep shit..I really want to do a 2.3 liter stroker kit on this..is it worth it? I plan on running a big 16g on ~22lbs with all supporting mods..that is if funding is right..if not ill stick with the 14b..so what do you guys think?

Well, its never a BAD thing to increase displacement LOL. Youll definitely like the results. I think you really need a good solid plan on all the parts you will need. There are MANY parts. You could strip the block down, take it to the machinist for a full rebuild, head and block decked, new pistons, rods,crank(2.3L i assume uses longer stroke) etc.etc. He will give you a list of the parts and miscellaneous stuff youll need. Go with the expensive stuff the first time, do it right, dont regret ya know?
The 16g with a 2.3 will perform very well. They do well on alot of setups. However with the extra displacement why not go larger? Like a holset or big precision turbo? Just a couple things to think about.

Also, set aside an extra 500 to 1k bucks for little stuff that needs replaced. When you tear that thing down not everythings going back in. You'll find a ton of little shit that breaks or is on its way out. Theres too many to list. But just make a solid build plan, stick to it and you will have a badass dsm.

I Do plan to go bigger! Just taking is step by step, I'm only 15 turning 16 on the 28th..so i have got a lot of time and room to learn. Plus I got my Audi to fix. **cough cough over engineered trash** so I can't afford to go big just yet..and I don't have the expirence driving to handle that much power!
 
Oh damn! Ya, you are young. Wow. Ok, i want you to be really careful with that car dude. Take your time with it and get some miles on any car under your belt before jumping in a 300+hp dsm LOL. My daughter is 3 yrs younger than you, god im getting old....
 
Depends on how many miles are on the used one, to be honest id buy new stuff so you don't have to worry about used stuff not working properly.
 
First word of advice: Don't get stuck on a certain number for PSI. 20psi on my engine could yield the same power as only 15psi on yours. You actually shouldn't get hung up on PSI at all. It's all about flow, PSI is just a measurement of force, not power. For example, a Holset HX35 will make more power on 10psi than a 16g will on 20psi. I hope that makes sense.

About the 2.3 stroker kit, it truly depends on the condition of the kit. Forged pistons are are not exactly known for their longevity compared to cast pistons. Also, if the stroker kit contains 85.5mm pistons and your block needs to be bored to 86mm, then you cant use it. It's also possible the crank and rods need to be reconditioned and only a machinist can determine by how much. So in a nutshell: There are a lot of risks when buying used engine internals and I wouldn't exactly suggest it.

Your can also build your own stroker kit. 2.4l Mitsubishi crank (might be hard to find for 6-bolt), 6mm offset pistons, and 2.0 rods of your choice. Throw all of that into a freshly bored/honed 6-bolt engine and you have a built stroker. That would cost you in the neighborhood of $1,500-2,000 for the entire bottom end. Rather than $1800 for just rods, piston, and crank.
