Engine problems HELP!

I have a 91 talon Tsi and there is a severe rattling sound coming from the head and i cannot figure it out. I even started the car without the valve cover on it and it was still there and not much oil was going to the top of the motor. what could this be? Also would it be cheaper to just rebuild it or buy a new oem motor. I can get a motor for $1200 and it is to oem specs. Complete longblock.

Way cheaper to rebuild than buy a new oem. Should beable to have a motor built for around 1k, if you do the pull and put it back in. Also what kind of rattling noise. Is it a constant tick or what? With the valve cover off you should be getting oil everywhere. I get oil everywhere just with the oil cap off.

Its like a constant rattle. There is no ticking to it just a loud constant rattle. and the oil was flying but not as bad as it hould have been. It sounds like something is inside the head or in the cylinders just shaking around.

If I were you I would pull it and check the block. If the block is fine then my guess would be its the head. Take the head to be rebuilt for 400 bucks and give that a shot. Before you go spending money try and cancel things out first. If you can zero out the problem and figure out where its coming from you can save ALOT of money. Instead of spending over 1k on a new longblock just pull it and check it out. Thats what I would do if I were you. Goodluck man

oh yeah duh..i figured you woulda done this already. um should be 155 range across the board correct me if im mistaken

yeah diagnose the problem 1st. then go from there. senseless to guess and to trial and error. too expense
