can someone please give me a step by step process on how to remove the engine out of my 1999 gst, without removing the tranny. please help me asap i need my car up and running!! i have pretty good mechanic skills i just need some reasurrance. thanks!!!

I have never pulled one with no hoist and I have never pulled on with the trans removed.

I always use a hoist and pull mine though the bottom motor and trans at once obvisiously this it not an option for you.

Here is where I would start;

Remove the wire harness from the engine
Drain oil and coolant
Remove DP from the car
remove the rad so you dont smack it up pulling the motor. Now I do not know if it will come out though the top with the turbo and intake installed it will though the bottom so Im not sure. If not then plan on pulling the turbo its easier then the intake. Get your engine crane and just take the weight off the motor. Remove the lower motor mounts and roll mount. Then remove the starter shift calbes etc to remove the trans and drain it to ensure it doesn't leak everwhere. Now you want to remove the right side engine mount and then unbolt the trans from the engine. NOW I don't know if there is enough room to leave the trans bolted to the frame and move the motor to the drivers side and get it out or not. If not then you have to support the trans from underneath and remove the mount and move it all the way you can to the passenger side to get the motor out.

Hope that helps.

thanks for your help man, im pulling the motor from the top because i dont have any type of lift, and just have the car sitting on jcks, but its still giving me trouble, do i have to unblot the flywheel? or what will the engine just slide out of the transmission without nbolting anything but the case bolts?

ok the way my friend and i did this in his 97 GST was this:

stripped EVERYTHING down to just the block and tranny. removed compressor, water pump, crank pully, etc... loosen the tranny motor mount but do not take it off. The reason you are doing this is so you have some play. unbolt all motor mounts and totally remove the drivers side mount.

Now this part takes 2-3 people and some patients but it works fine. you are going to have to wiggle the block back and forth to get it off the tranny. you do not have to unbolt the flywheel or any of that. The easiest way is to wiggle the block towards the driver side. if you took everything off the side of the block like the pullies, crank pully, water pump, etc... youll have enough room to get it out.

it took 3 of us to wiggle it around but finally we were able to get it to drop onto the ground with the tranny still attached to the car.

let me know how it goes.
