All threads with vague titles regarding engine bay noises are now merged HERE.

If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.

I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

Its probably your head the valve lashers. If it was coming from you crank case you would get low oil pressure...

Its not the lifters as its coming from the timing belt area. It only makes the noise at light throttle and cruising speeds. Its strange. Its a metal on metal sound. Its really frustrating. Ill pull the valve cover again to inspect but I doubt that Ill find anything.

sounds like a bearing.
Usually when there's a decent load on the motor or when you're in decel it wont make noise. However, at part throttle/cruise thats when the slop is heard.

Sorry :(

Pull each plug wire individually and give it part throttle to see if the tapping stops. Whichever one you pull that makes the noise cease, thats the spun bearing.

I have a 95 talon tsi and i am hearing a knocking sound in low rpms but only in first or second gear... I am concered about it. What do you think it is? My car is totally stock so im not sure what it is.

Spun balance shaft bearings?

I say this because the last thing i did involved taking the crank case off to replace the gasket.

Could be a spun silent shaft bearing. I spun one once in the Spyder but it made my car sound literally like a toy car when the motor was ideling/revving. As pissed off as I was it was still kinda funny LOL.

I was driving the other day and my GS-T started making this sort of loud rubbing noise and im not sure what it is. Im confident its not the timing belt but maybe someone can help me out here? Thanks:confused:

That could be just about anythingWTF You're going to need to be more specific when/where its rubbing. Is it in the engine compartment, outside?

Its in the engine compartment. I was thinking maybe its the lifters or something?

Its a pretty loud rubbing noise that it makes wheather its driving or idling.

All i can say info wise is that i didnt have the noise before i removed the crank case. Get it all back together and 2 days latter i get this noise.
Also it will only make the noise after the car is warmed up.

I removed the accessory belts and it was still there so i know its not the alt. power stearing and water pump.

Visual i dont see anything wrong anywhere. could it be a failed idler?

Thanks for the help

Just like the title says, There is a wierd noise that kinda sounds like a low tone moan coming from the engine bay when I release the gas pedal while driving. It only makes the sound when I am driving then release the gas pedal. I have tried when I am parked and it does not make the sound. It is drivable, I am just concerned that it will lead to something else. Please help. Thanks

Auto or manual?
WOT or partial?
Any difference when pedal is let up slowly or quickly?
Pedal released all the way or just decreasing throttle?
Sound is short or long?

Both at WOT and Parial
No difference in slow or quick release
In both all the way and decreasing throttle
It sound short to me and it is constant every time
