engine coolant temp too low?

Yeah, earlier I just reviewed temps were only at like 176* while cruising, for a few moments it got up to like 189* but as soon as the heater is turned on at all I can lower the temps to like 155-160* which is strange while cruising. I have a different coolant temp sensor I can throw in tomorrow to test after I do a log tonight.

Btw- car is stock, only has fmic, 16g @11lbs and MMCd as logging.


Update: just did a 25 Min drive and cruising my temps were still only 179-186* but if I let it idle I was able to get to 203* but once I turned the heater on or get into mid throttle cruise it lowers back to 170-186*

I never want to see my tempt go over 210degF. That right there tells me there is something wrong with my cooling system or something mechanically. 180-210degF is the sweet spot with these cars IMHO.

I’m not sure what happened. Moved to new area, nice area. One day for work I go out to find it gone at 630am. Towing didn’t dispatch anyone, reported it stolen 30 minutes later. Found multiple “bump” keys on the ground where driver door would have been. It’s been almost a week now. It’s most likely gone for good.

Gas engines are designed to operate properly at 195*. DSM link doesn't make fuel trim changes unless above 190. Can you run lower, sure, will it hurt anything, no. Is it optimal, no.

160* is absolutely not needed for any reason, if your car overheats without one you have cooling issues.

I do not like engines to get more than 215* at idle, cruise, etc. I have my electronic fan controller kick on at 200 and back off at 190 and run a 180 thermostat.

This is a good thread and worth reviving again. I'll go a minor step further and ask about coolant. Some may consider it a generic and worthless debate, but there's been a lot of advancement in coolant technology since our cars were built. I really like Zerex G05 "HOAT" coolant but can't find any info in regards to other DSMers who've tried it with success or failure. It is the recommended coolant for early 2000s-2012 Mopars and is great for aluminum, safe on water pumps, long life, etc. On other car forums I've read people state that it cools far better than regular old green coolant in their cars. It also appears safe to mix with regular green coolant but am not positive about that. So has any DSMer researched this topic already or have used G05?
