yea my engine is still "lubed up", which is fine by me. before i did it my belts were squeaking everytime i turned the car on, and now it doesnt. hidden bonus.

hmm. i wonder if i should do this on my car..

this is how it looks now..

i dont think its worth it to do it since it already looks brand new.. or as some people ahev said.. "like from the dealership brand new" :)

I am about to try this. But what exactly should you cover up or not in a 2g?

From what I've read it seems that you should cover up:

Air Filter
Battery ?
Alternator ?

Is there anything else I should cover up? Or does it really matter? Thanks in advance

i didnt cover up anything on my stock motor. the degreaser can suggested it, but they also suggested i let the motor cool before spraying it....

can someone clear this up for me

do you put the armorall tire foam stuff on before or after you have evaporated all the excess water from rinsing?

About ten years ago I detailed cars for a living. Believe me, you can hose the crap out of the engine bay without much worrying. If you have an open element air filter just put a plastic bag around it. Only other probs I used to see was getting water into distributor caps and that was an easy fix by just drying them out. Of course, we don't have to worry about that as we have distributorless ignitions. I hose mine off about every three car washes to keep build up down and dust off. And this is with the high pressure car wash guns. Just use common sense and don't hold it like one inch from electrical connections and such.

I can't stand that greasy tire dressing crap on my engine though. It makes your hands all nasty if you work under the hood much. A nice clean non shiny engine bay looks better IMHO. If you look at the pics of my engine bay you can see how good regular rinsings keep the engine bay clean. No tire dressing necessary. Click the pic to see a bigger version.

BRAKE CLEANER! OMG OMG OMG Holy crap...don't do that. Brake cleaner EATS plastic and turns it into goo. Lethal crap. It will absolutely decimate electrical components.

Yeah I agree, never use brake cleaner... I use what is called CD-2 engine detailer. This stuff works great and is the same price as these tire foams. BUT, it lasts WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY longer than them. It also lays a lot more evenly too I think.

I use Simple Green. Great Stuff. I always try to blow the loose sand and dirt out with an air compressor. And whenever I have a part out that I'm working on I always clean it and the areas I would not normally have access to. Then for general clean up and wiping down, Simple Green.

On a side note. My engine bay has never been "hosed out" with water. If you do plan on doing that I would recommend doing what turbowop said about the filter element and like to add try not to directly spray at your spark plug wells. Do it at home also, so you can let it sit and let it dry. My .02 cents.

My Engine Bay, sorry no bling-bling. I too, am not into the greasy armor-all stuff. makes working under the hood messy.
