what all should we cover up when doing thiS? i woulda assume, the intake, battery and what else?? is it completley safe to spray water into the engine bay?

well i just got done doing it, but i just did a few spots that needed it, it really did make a difference, but i didnt spray water onto it, like clipsemanGST said, i am too a little hesitant, ill put up pics in a couple minutes.

i just did it using CRC engine degreeser, not gunk....it helped in most spots however where it dried at, its just cloudy white and looks bad...im going to do the tire foam tomorrow and see how shiny it gets things....all icovered was the intake and my breather filter...and my dad(being a mechanic) sprayed EVERYTHING in my engine compartment and i had NO problems AT ALL.

just got done doin it with my bud... we gunked it. let it sit. sprayed the whole engine bay down. then put the tire foam over basically the whole engine, besides the filter.... it turned out really well... i recomend this totally..

Ooo, i'm gonna go try this. I think i'll use the RS as the guinea pig. A nice shiny engine bay couldn't hurt when I try to sell the car... if I ever get around to it. :p

Ok, so I started this kinda late and ran out of daylight. Used the engine cleaner, but i'm gonna have to wait until tomorrow to put the armorall tire foam on. Now, to anyone who has already done this, do I have to rinse off the tire foam, or do I just spray it on and let it drip off and dry? Just curious because nothing here says to rinse that stuff off, and it doesn't say it on the bottle either. Just want to make sure so I don't go and rinse off the shine if I'm not supposed to.

Oh, and I soaked the f*#k out of the engine and didn't cover anything. No problems at all. When I was done I just made sure to soak up any standing water with a rag. I was kind of hesitant to go spraying all kinds of water in there, but I just said screw it and ended up drenching everything.

okay beforei wake up early and do this :) lets get this straight.....LOL...for those of u who only covered teh intake NO PRoLEMS ...so did u wet the alternator? i was gonna cover the intake and the plug wires where htey come out from the plug cover .....and then go....if i drive my car then come home and do it how long should i wait before i try this? lemme know guys =) and yeh same question about the tire foam ...and with the tire foam do u soakd the engine just like with the gunk? or do u just use it in select places? and what about the maf?!

well on the can of degreaser it says to do it when the engine is cool, but i didn't wanna wait that long. So when I got home I let the car sit for an hour with the hood open then went to work. Also, about the alternator... I soaked it. hehe. I would have covered my intake if it were still on, but since I put the airbox back on I didn't feel the need to cover anything. When I do my gst I don't think i'll go as crazy with the water, and i'll probably cover a few things. Like cover/plug up the area where the plug wires exit the spark plug cover so water doesn't find it's way under there. Or I could just take it off and clean in there, if i'm in the mood. And with the foam, it looks like you spray it everywhere! Follow the link in the first post and check out the pics one of the 3si guys posted. It looks like it snowed in his engine bay. :)

I tried it out on the beater first too. Notice what type of car i call my beater...hehehe

anyways worked awesome. Especially for only 3 bucks since i had a can of gunk laying around already.

I have been doing this for years! My "no so secret anymore" tip to engine detailing! I have gotten tons of comments at car shows, people thinking I spent an hour detailing. Nope, just 5 minutes! What I do is use Brake Cleaner in a spray can. Spray ANYTHING and EVERYTHING with it! Get all oil or gunk off the motor and hoses. Wait a few minutes. Then take Armorall Foaming Tire dressing and spray anything black and plastic! (wire looms, vacuum hoses, inlet tubes, etc) and let it do the rest. Usually take a rag and clean up some spots were the foam doesn't quite get all off. But otherwise, that is it! Works great! Leaves time for detailing the rest of the car! :thumb:
