I took the head up to Jackson Auto Machine to have them work on it. Here's the breakdown:

NEW PARTS:

- 1mm oversize stainless steel exhaust and intake valves
- Solid bronze valve guides
- Titanium retainers
- Upgraded springs
- 3G 3mm big bore lifters
- HKS 272/272 cams
- Stainless exhaust studs

MACHINING:

- Competition multi angle valve job
- Bowl blend
- Port matching

Notice I changed the cams from 264/272 to both 272's. Higher displacement engines can handle more aggressive cam profiles, and the 272's shouldn't kill the smoothness too much; plus, I'm leaving the balance shafts in.

The pictures are of the head before I removed it from the GVR4 block. You can see the infamous "Cyclone" dual runner intake manifold in the first picture. I know you can't see it really well, but the head was in pretty good condition for being, like, over ten years old. It was a pain to take those cam gears off, though- I had to put the camshafts in a vise and use an impact wrench to remove the bolts.

I took off most of the 1G parts I'm going to use, then I took the GVR4 block off the engine stand. Next thing to go on it is the 2G 4G63 from my car.

Why are you leaving the balance shafts in? A small amount of vibration isn't a big deal, plus reliability will be better and maintenance will be easier.

housegsx: In Part 5 I answered a comment much like yours. I don't think the tradeoff is worth it. I'd rather leave them in.
