Energy Suspension motor mount inserts. Should I use them? My mechanic says no.

Calgary,
My engine is finally ready to be installed. I picked up some motor mount inserts for $23 (just front & rear). My mechanic doesn't want to put them in as he says that they will make the car vibrate so bad that I'll eventually want him to take them back out. I got the balance shafts removed and installed HKS 264/264 cams so that will already add vibration at idle. I've searched and seen some guys that say adding the inserts make the car vibrate horribly while some guys say it isn't that bad. I do plan on using the car as a daily driver in the summer so if anyone from experience can give me some advise I would surely appreciate it.

I dont have experience on my car but I have seen them on a rwd ford turbo coupe and mustang cobra. They do cause a little vibration but what I dont understand is why tyou took out the balance shaft...I know you can get gains from it but inline enginges have bad natural balance so with the mounts and balance shaft out I would say it would vibrate a goods bit more with the inserts, but hey thats the sacrifice for speed.....

I just got my car back yesterday and its definetly different than stock , but its like sitting in an old muscle car. Just make sure yo got nothing rattling/loose.

They saved me from the infernal wheel hop of hell ... which I had so bad that my windshield wiper handle on my steering wheel would flip up on its own. If you are too concerned with rideability then only put the front in. Thats what I did ... the front is the major one and helped me immeasurably. Now instead of hop I just get a nonstop burnout if heavy on the gas. Which is slightly less annoying. This also yielded me a LOT better launch at the tracks since I can now get into it as heavy as I wish. I havent noticed any more vibrations than before and neither have passengers, but again I only have the front torque in.

They're cool ... and you'll see a responsiveness difference that will most likely make you forget about removing them.

Go for it! No regrets here!

K, I have front and rear inserts, its not too bad. i'll rate it a 3 for vibration.

I've felt, front and rear, no balance shaft, with 272s. the vibration is up there, but bareable. I'll rate it a 6.58 of 10

I've also felt all 4 prothane mounts, and no balance shaft is. mild cams, now thats a rough ride. reminds me of a harley. I'll rate that a 8.7

imo, front and rear for you should be fine and bareable, with a good suspension and tire setup, you shouldn't have wheel hop. at the track I dont get wheel hop and i'm on stock suspension.

The rollstop mounts (F+R) are attached to subframes, which attach to the body with rubber mounts. It won't increase vibration significantly.
I have all 4 prothane mounts with ES front subframe bushings as well, without balance shafts. I found a lot of rattles in the dash that I had never heard before at idle ;). It's really only bad at idle though.

Anyone who whines about what LITTLE vibration they DO add needs to go buy a Beetle.

I agree. Go buy a cadillac. I have all 4 in my 1g and not much more vibration than my blown stock ones.

I'm used to driving crude vehicles, but my mechanic said it would make my interior rattle to the point that it would start falling apart. I don't mind vibration but I hate the sound of a rattling interior. I had a civic with a booming system, headers, no cat, cat-back, etc. and the interior was a rattle box. I want to get rid of wheel hop but I don't want to go back to the old rattlemobile days. That said, I will get him to put them in. ;)

Your mecanic is an idiot! J/k
my friend has the talon that Al put the motor mounts into, it's not that bad. i say go for it. i can aslo get him to meet you so you can see first hand.

Al said that he didn't like them. I bought them so I was putting them in anyway. Is that the 1G white one that Al rebuilt? How is it running?

I'll let you know in a couple days.

Full set of mounts, 264's, and balance shaft removed.

Ok, so the mechanic's hands were a little dirty from taking out the old ones... I love the red accents though!

The full set eh. Well I guess if you can handle it, just the front and rear should be like a ride in the park.

she's running great, but don't use royal purple oil, we had problems with oil consumption. the motor is great now with mobil 1. so Karl was saying that you saw my turbo setup, that manifold is close to the upper intercooler pipe. i might have to get some diffrent plumbing in there.

Two of my stock mounts broke, and i just filled t hem in with some windo-weld.
with the broken mounts ( front and back) filled, i can not tell one bit of difference vs. stock.
I also have no balance shaft, but my whole engine has been blueprinted/balanced so i really don't have that much vibration to begin with.

You should really be running an external wastegate with a turbo that large. Why didn't you go that route?

I am running the same kit you have in my 2g awd and haveno balance shafts and crower stage 3's which are alot more aggressive then 272's especialy at idle my friends car idles at 1k with about 18pounds of vacume my car idles at 1k flickering at about 7-10 pounds of vacume (no boost leaks) and yea it does vibrate but its definitly bearable and pretty pimp to. I have been running this setup for over 8 months and my interior is fine.

Being a FWD I definetly recommend them if you ever plan to race.

I kept braking tranny's due to wheel hop, and the Motor mounts helped with that A lot.

Don't ask me why? but I haven't broken a tranny yet since I installed them.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm definately putting them in.

Good choice. I only notice the vibration when my A/C is on and I'm idling. If you want it to go away you could just turn up your idle speed. My interior doesn't rattle. The total lack of wheelhop outweighs any minor discomfort.

I'm going with the same setup (urethane MM w/ bal shaft out). I guess I'll see how in goes in a couple weeks when the new motor's finally back in.

For those with aftermarket MM experience, thanks for the reassurance :thumb:
