How do you get out of going for emmisions, i heard about sending pics of roll cage, etc. to them and then they may not make you go. But who do i send these pics to, and what else could i take pics of? or is there no way of getting out of emmisions, and is there still no awd emmisions dynos in illinois?

No, there is no AWD dynos in IL. I dont think there will be. Too expensive. And anyways, 'we' have moved on to OBD 2 which is more sophisticated and sensitive to emissions. I have a 90 TSI and passed emissions with flying colors, and it had an idling problem. Well, I did rebuilt the engine, replaced lots of things, and put in a new 3" highflow catco cat.

'They' connect a scanner on your cars connector and see if any codes pop up. To make sure nothing is out of the parameters.

what would make it go out of parameters?, wouldnt a check engine light be caused from out of whack parameters?

Yes it would, but people always find ways of messing around with the MIL. So I guess its a way of making sure. I do not about you, but in OBD 1 the MIL SHOULD go on if the o2 sensor is out of whack, but in 2 instances as for me, the MIL did NOT come on, but I still went ahead and replaced the o2 sensor and car passed emissions. OBD 2 should be better at that, so I do not know for sure for sure.

This is from my experience, they do not put awd cars on the rollers but on 1G's they stick a probe in the tail pipe and for 2G awd's w/ obd 1 also for 2G AWD's they do a Scan for codes. ya know - POXXX

Sounds right to me, they jsut stick the probe in. They used to do the same thing in Wisconsin till they got AWD rollers (Bastards).

DAMN! They have AWD rollers in WI? How do you know? Says your from Carol Stream. And sounds like you dont like it, it shouldnt even affect you.

I just passed emissions in Illinois about two weeks ago. I have a 91 TSi AWD with all emissions removed, 3" turbo-back exhaust, and no cat. My o2 sensor was also bad. I passed emissions with no problem. It is also correct that they do not put AWD on rollers.

Good luck,

Brian
