eliminating the starter plate

has anyone ever just eliminated the starter plate? i put a shell together, and now i forgot to get a starter plate. this is for a awd 5-speed 2g

I think if you eliminate the starter plate you may run into issues with alignment on the starter. I guess the only thing to do is try it and find out if it works. someone please correct if i'm wrong.

Thats right and the starter plate kind of protects the flywheel from debrie getting into it.
