My car needs a good downpipe, but all the downpipes on ebay are designed to eliminate the cat. I don't want to run into any big problems with the police, so my question is would I get a huge fine for running without a cat? Or would I just get a "fix it" ticket? Or... Should I just grow a set and put a cat eliminating downpipe on my car...

I live in Iowa, and here we have no emission regulations really (seeing as how we have all the farmers with their tractors HAHA). As for the noise regulation part, here we don't get hassled too much. Does your town have like a loud stereo regulation or anything? If they don't they will prob not crack down on you at all, they never crack down on trucks with glasspacks either. I am running no cat now with the apexi n1, and its actually not that loud, the turbo quiets it quite a bit! Basically I would guess that if you kept your RPMs down when you saw the 5-0 you shouldnt have much to worry about.

I thought washington had emissions tests because of all the hippie yuppies?

If so you will have to put it back on every couple of years when it is time for inspection/ SMOG

yeah thats what costing me today 80 bucks because the car came with a downpipe and no catalitic converter

In CA I believe the fine is $1500USD.

What you can do to pass a cursory inspection, is weld the heat plates from a catalytic convertor around a test pipe, so it looks like a cat. :sneaky:

Buschur Racing's 2.5" DP lets you bolt on a cat/test pipe. You could also just get a cheaper one, cut it and reweld the flange.

You should be quiet enough with a cat-elimnating downpipe, as long as you have a cat-back with a decent noise surpressing muffler and at least one or more resonators. The police in my area are very anal about loud exhausts, and I havent ever been hastled about my straight 3" set-up. Mostly because I have a quiet cat-back.

Your main concern should be emmisions testing. If you do have testing in your area, you will need some sort of cat. But if you dont have testing, just go for the cat-elim. dp.

here its so weird. drive 20 minutes north and they have emissions testing, in my area cops could care less. if you dont have a cat then oh well.
