Haven't found many threads relating to this . . . I'm about to put my engine back together and I'm going to ditch the EGR. Will I have to worry about CEL's ( I have a '97 GST)? Or do I just have to block off all of the proper vacuum lines and put on a blocking plate? No other sensors to trick/disable?

Most threads I've read deal with the 1Gs

need i do anything to the temp sensor? the one on top of the TB that makes sure the EGR is working properly?

Moved to General Discussion.

The CEL mainly comes on if the electrical connectors are unplugged.

The ECU will check for a change in manifold pressure while the EGR valve is open after the OBDII drive cycle completes. The drive cycle is:

1. Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch.
2. Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at ¾ throttle.
3. Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes.

So you may not get it right away, but you will eventually get a CEL for low EGR flow and EVAP leak.OBDII is very sophisticated, it not only checks for proper operation of the sensors/actuators, but also for blockages, leaks, etc.Leaving the electrical connectors plugged in will not help, you will eventually get the CEL.

Why you want to remove the EGR?

Well i wanted to try and get my intake temps as cool as possible . . . not to mention keep my intake manifold clean, but after doing more research, I've concluded that a properly operating EGR is more beneficial than just ripping it out. So I cleaned mine up and am keeping it.

Yeah, it is supposed to close at WOT. So HP gains really wont be seen all that much. However, I'm sure if the EGR is stuck open/closed, it could cause problems.
