I need to smog my car in california i did the pretest everything went just fine even with my mods, EXCEPT for My EGR is not working, I havn't done the block off mod to it or anything just need to know how to get it working so i can smog, its got no vaccume at idle or when driving. What all could be wrong with it? hoping its not the EGR valve as a new one would cost $93 and be special order non returnable. please hlp i need to smog SOON. :dsm:

wonderin if you can help me out?
Hey, you seem to know a lot so i was hoping I could ask you about my EGR. i need to smog and i failed the first go around here in California for EGR not fuctioning. Do you happen to know if the valve clogs really easy or anything? on one tube their is vaccume at the correct range the other no vaccume, i chased the lines to the throttle body and the same thing, on good one bad, but i notice on the throttle body it looks like there are three output but on the two closest to the firewall have bungs and hoses, do you know if thats normal? also the power plug for the EGR valve has some sort of wax or grease on it, i think its most liley conductivity gel? Also i'm getting the MIL/CEL fail on my smog too but doing some searching i'm seeing its a common problem and that i pretty much have to go to the dealership and pay them 240 for a one time fix untill i smog next time around, could the two be related at all?

Thank you for the PM, but it's seldom I can take on repairs on a one-on-one basis. It's also not fair to the rest of the members, as they don't get the benefit, nor the chance to correct.

Has the engine in this car been swapped?

original engine 7 bolt, just with the modifications I have in my profile, to my knowledge nothing that should cause this problem. as of right now i'm following all of the lines and replacing all of the plastic fittings hoping to find some sort of obstruction in the lines. i'll post tomorrow with my results but so far nothing, i'm also spraying electra clean on all of my EGR connections to make sure that power and signals shouldn't have a problem working.

my question for this problem as of right now is though is for people that have had this problem what was wrong with yours?

Second question, when I cold start my car should EGR be "Not ready" on the I/M tests? or does it have to warm up to get it to ready? :dsm:

checked all lines i think i have vaccum in a line i didn't befor, i also replased all T fitting and coulplers. But on my OBD-II it still says EGR not ready, I think in california they test the OBD-II tests for smog (can somone confirm?) if so then my ECU not having the ready monitors set would cause me to fail the ERG functional portion of the smog right? so maybe if i just got to the dealership and have them set my monitors the EGR can pass as well? :dsm:

After replacing all of the plastic T fitting and couplers, and spraying every ERG power and sensor connection with electra clean it finally has vaccum everywhere is should and within range, thank you to everyone who at least made an effort to help me, i appreciate it a lot.
now all i need to do is have the ecu manipt. and i can smog!

naw i have a bad ecu found that out when i found out my egr wasn't working, need to take it to the dealership and pay 240 to have mitsu spend 5 minutes on my car and drive straight to the smog shop. but i pass emissions wise its just the mitsubishi craftmenship that has held me back in these smog tests. but i pass with the mod i have posted in my profile, except i took off the boost controller and breather filter.
